Sometimes, an attempt to access a web page of the Online System will "time out" with a message that the host was not reachable. If this happens, try the operation again (by clicking the link again or pushing the button again). If the problem still occurs, there could be a problem in the route that your computer is taking to get to the FCC computer. Try to reach another web site. If you cannot access any web sites, the problem is probably with your internet service provider.

The Boston College network is protected by a "firewall" and inbound telnet and ftp are only allowed to selected computers, NOT including ecsa200 and goanna. If you have a need to access these machines from off-campus, you can request an account on the gateway host echidna.bc.edu. You will then connect first to echidna, and from there, to your destination host.

You can access cPanel by typing in your website name followed by cpanel; ie if your domain name is www.mycompany.co.nz, then to access cPanel, you would enter www.mycompany.co.nz/cpanel in your browser address window. The password you use here is the main account password for the web site (the one you were given or selected when the web site was initially setup). If you are unsure of your username and password, please contact us and we will let you know what your username and password is.

If a site is configured to allow access from specified IP addresses only, requests made via a proxy are rejected because the request for the page comes from the proxy rather than the original machine making the request. This is a problem with the setup of the site rather than with the proxy configuration. Authentication based on source IP address is unreliable as an authentication technique.

To get back into the course, please close your browser window and re-open it. It should then appear fine. We have found that 90% of access problems are solved by simply closing your browser window and re-opening it. Sometimes an individual might have to open the preferences in their browser, and "clear the cache" or delete their history, but usually all that is needed it to close and reopen the browser.

Why bother with S-100 computers, when the IBM PC blew them away years ago, and MS-DOS/Windows is so much better than CP/M, etc. etc. I just bought a Heath or Zenith device - can you help me? (or whatever happened to Heath and Zenith?)

The login name and password are case-sensitive for these pages. You can log into your site using a different case and look at other pages, but you'll get an error if you try to view these. You must sign out and back in again with the correct case.

The alumni online community provides a method to allow e-mail to be forwarded to your own personal e-mail address which is hosted through your own e-mail service provider, your place of employment, etc. The Boston College alumni site does not have individual mailboxes or e-mail service other than e-mail forwarding available for alumni use.
