Traffic and criminal citations can be paid at the Washington County Courthouse in Cottage Grove at 8180 Belden Blvd. They can be contacted at (651) 430-4000 with any questions on fines or court dates. Administrative Ordinance Citations issued by the City can be paid at City Hall at 7516 - 80th Street South.

Parking tickets and civil ordinance violations can be paid by mail or in person at the police department. If you received a traffic citation (i.e. for speeding or failing to stop for a red light), the fine must be sent within twenty (20) days to the Violations Bureau. You may also request a trail using this method. The instructions are located on your ticket and envelope.

If you get a parking citation you have three options. You MUST do one of the following three within 21 days of receiving the citation: Contest the citation if you believe it was issued in error. Yes. Students, staff, and faculty can request a hearing. You must file for a hearing within 10 days of issuance of the citation. Hearings are held once a month for faculty/staff and once a week for students. You have a choice to be present or not. Hearing forms can be obtained at the Parking Management Department.

You can appeal a parking citation within 10 days of the issuance date. You can appeal the citation by filling out the appeal section on the back of the pink copy of the citation, or come in to Campus Safety and get a Citation Appeal Form to complete, or click here to get a copy of the appeal form.

The charge will be placed on a Fail to Respond docket and a Justice of the Peace will review the offence notice and may convict you in your absence. Once you have been convicted it is too late to choose any of the options indicated on the back of your ticket.

If you received a citation for your animal you have two options. The first option is to pay the fine specified on the citation within thirty days of the date you received the citation. The second option is to appear in court on the date and time specified on the citation. Failure to do any of one of these two items will result in a bench warrant being issued for your arrest, so please don't forget about this and make sure it is taken care of.

Arraignment. The appearance date given on your ticket is your arraignment date. You must appear on this date unless you pay the ticket prior to the date. Please note, if the officer has indicated on the ticket that it is a MUST APPEAR citation, then you may not pay the ticket prior to the court date, and you must appear before the Judge. You can either send in or bring to the office a copy of your handicap placard (both front and back), the handicap placard registration and your driver's license or I.D. card. The citation will be administratively excused if valid at the time of citation issuance. If you do not have a handicap placard, you will either have to pay the citation or request a court date to appear before a judge.

Each campus regulates the parking in its lots. Some campuses want to enforce this regulation in order to insure that students on their home campuses have adequate parking.
