Your brochure says that students are strongly discouraged from working during the didactic year and that employment during the clinical year is virtually impossible. I did quite well in college despite the fact that I held part-time job. Experience has taught us that PA education is so intense and time-consuming that there is a direct correlation between the attempt to hold a part-time job and academic performance.

Some programs allow students to start in any semester while other programs only allow students to start the program in the fall semester. Please contact the graduate advisor for information about a specific program.

We admit MA students only in the fall semester. Once you are accepted into the MA program, you may opt to start clinical practica during the summer prior to your starting fall. Under special circumstances Ph.D. students may be admitted at other times; however, starting in a semester other than Fall can complicate and/or lengthen one’s program of study. Quite a few students who do not have a background in communication sciences and disorders are admitted to the MA program each year.

The veterinary technology program is designed to accommodate the needs of the students without compromising the integrity of the degree. You may start your classes in any semester, but there are a few prerequisites that must be completed before you will be allowed to take advanced veterinary technology classes. The brochure (and this website) will help to explain these prerequisites, or an appointment can be made with a faculty member to help you plan your academic schedule.

Online courses are scheduled to begin on the same date as on-campus courses. Frequently, the online courses themselves will be available anywhere between a week to a month or more before the actual start of courses. However, students should not work in these courses before the actual start of the semester, unless their instructor tells them it is all right. The courses have to be set up in advance to get everything ready for the upcoming semester.

Both the DEL Program and Senior Professional Program target working professionals with a minimum of five years of experience, and result in the same MEM degree. However, the structure and content of the programs are quite different. The DEL-MEM is a two-year, 30-credit program that emphasizes interdisciplinary and global themes, strategic approaches to environmental management, communication and effective leadership.

Some freshmen who earn excellent grades during their first semester in IT may be admitted to the program in spring. Transfer students who enter as sophomores may also be admitted to IT lower division honors. For questions and applications, contact an advisor in 136 Lind Hall. Upper division honors is administered by each IT department individually. Students who are not part of the lower division honors program can still participate in upper division honors if their performance merits it.

Contact your advisor. She/He will have an advising folder containing your files. They will also have access to your current information. Come prepared with your own documentation on your program progress. An informal review can audit your transcripts against the program plan you are working to and can identify any deficiencies. The Degree Audit Report (DAR) is a tool to assist in this process.

It truly depends on your individual needs. There are many organizations that offer internship opportunities throughout the year, and others that may only offer summer opportunities. Many students enjoy focusing on their internship during the summer, while others feel it is best for them to pursue the opportunity during the Fall or Spring semesters.

The deadline for priority financial aid and housing consideration is Feb 1 and the final application deadline is March 15.

If you apply for housing for the Fall semester your contract will be for the full academic year (*see next question for one exception), which means August through May. If you are not going to be living with us in the Fall, you can apply for housing for just the Spring semester at a later date (usually in early October).

Although most men join fraternities in the fall, there is a spring recruitment period where many members join chapters. While not all fraternities participate in spring recruitment, numerous chapters do and there will be recruitment events sponsored by the IFC.

To register for an orientation session, complete the registration card that was sent to you in April (or later, if you were accepted to MSU after April) and return it to the Orientation Office. Please note: We CANNOT take registration information over the phone, via email or on-line. If you wish to reserve a spot in one of the summer sessions (freshmen only), please do not delay. Space in the summer sessions is limited and is filled on a first come, first serve basis.
