About seventy percent of the databases that we subscribe to can be accessed from off campus computers.

You can access almost every database from any university computer - library, computer labs, dorm rooms, offices, etc. - so long as it is hooked into the university's computer network.

Only registered students, faculty, and staff of BHSU are allowed to access databases using off-campus computers or dorm computers. When prompted, please enter your BHSU e-mail address as your username and type in the password that you use to login to a BHSU computer or to access your BHSU e-mail. All databases except Ancestry Library Edition and Foundation Directory Online are now available to off-campus users. A description of databases is given on Online Databases page.

You should find several icons: Newsbank, Access PA, etc. You can either click on them or their "typed" hot links (located below them) to get to the database of your choice. d. Once you arrive at the database site, you will be prompted either for a library barcode or for a "Library Card". In either case, entering the 14 digit barcode number on the library card (that was issued to you) should allow you into the site and enable full search functionality.

The first thing you may want to do is to select another database to search. Sometimes the server for a particular database is down, but others are working. Sometimes MCC's server is down, and you may just need to try to log in at a later time during the day. If you are still not able to log in from home to search the Library databases, follow the instructions posted on the Access to Library Databases from Home web page.

A Choose "Find Articles and More" or "Databases (A-Z)" from the menu on our home page. Once you select a specific database, you will be asked for your Bloomsburg library number (it can be located on your ID card, lower right hand corner). Upon submitting it, you will be taken to the databse you selected. If you are denied access, call the Circulation Desk at 570-389-4205.

If you are prompted for a User ID and Password after entering your barcode, or you are prompted for a user ID and password, your firewall may be interfering with your access. We are investigating this issue, but you may be able to get around it by disabling your firewall, connecting to the resource, and re-enabling your firewall when you are finished using the resource. If you are using an AOL Internet browser you may have difficulties utilizing our catalog and databases.

The Library Catalog is available via the Internet so you can access it from home if you have an account with an ISP. Nearly all of the Library's research databases are available from home as well via the Library's Articles & Databases Web page. Remember, to click on the Off-Campus icon and enter your User ID from the back of your current Shasta College Library Card for access - Students and Staff only. Watch for additional databases to be added in the future.

If you are a student, faculty, or staff of LSU, you can access databases and ejournals from anywhere that has an internet connection. Simply use the Libraries' webpage as you normally would, and enter your user ID and PIN when prompted. If you don't know what to enter see the User ID and PIN section of this FAQ. If you are not affiliated with LSU then you may not access our resources off-campus.

No. CD-ROM reference databases are accessible only on certain computers near the Reference Desk in the library. Ask a reference librarian at the Reference Desk for assistance. Other CD-ROMs can be checked out of the library; these can be found through the online library catalog.

Once your student photo I.D. is activated, you will be able to access the library's catalog remotely from home, work, etc. Remote access to other electronic databases is explained on a handout available at the circulation counter. You will be welcome to use materials within the library. Permission to check out an item will generally be refused; however, your request may be granted at the discretion of the librarian.
