The GameCube was first unveiled on August 24th, the day before Nintendo's Spaceworld 2000 show in Japan. A Nintendo ROM ("Read Only Memory") is the type of chip used in a Nintendo video game cartridge which contains the game software. Nintendo's strategy is to include e-Reader support in many upcoming games on GBA and Game Cube. That's all I can really say at this point. The e-Reader has a lot of potential, and it will be interesting to see where (and how far) Nintendo goes with the device, but the company doesn't seem too interested in making stand-alone e-Card applications (as they have demonstrated with their repeated delays of releasing the Game & Watch-e cards).

No. The GameCube runs on a mini-DVD medium while the Nintendo 64 was a cartridge based system. With far more developers signed up for the GameCube than ever were signed up for the N64, is backwards compatibility really wanted? GameCube presents a dramatic leap in capability and such a great difference in hardware, backwards compatibility just isn't worth it.
