Before any paint hits the canvas a lot of prep work goes into each piece. The canvas is cut from a large bolt, shrunk with hot water, allowed to dry, and cut to size. Each piece has a sewn hem with carefully mitered, sewn and turned corners.(This is a Canvasworks trademark- I like to make the absolute best product which will stand up to years of wear.) The sewn canvas is pressed to ensure a smooth, flat painting surface.

Great care should be taken before painting previous 'furniture' finishes, due to the high likelihood that silicone waxes and cleaners have been used on these surfaces. The presence of silicone can be expected to interfere with the ability of a wooden substrate to properly accept a paint finish. Silicone is present in most of the popular household waxes sold in the US Wood surfaces should be well abraded with a 150-grit paper to break up any existing finish, and then tacked clean. This is without a doubt our most-asked question. It's actually pretty easy once you've got the first one under your belt. You need 2" extra ON EACH SIDE for the wrap. Think of it as wrapping a box, and you need paper for the sides. So - a 16x16 finished size becomes a 20x20 when it's submitted. Wrinkles which are not severe may be remedied. If the canvas has not been painted on yet, it can be tightened by removing the staples near the affected area(s), pulled taut with canvas pliers (sold in art supply stores or catalog, such as www.pearlpaint.com), and restapled. If the stretched canvas has already been painted on, but not yet framed, there are two possible remedies, although you should proceed with some caution. See similar questions...

First you should clean the gel coat with a wax and grease remover. The gel coat is the white outer surface of the part. Next you should start by sanding with a 280 grit wet sandpaper, then with a 320 grit wet sandpaper. Follow the paint primer manufacturer's recommendation for final sanding. Make sure all surfaces are completely sanded, otherwise your primer and paint will not stick to the gel coat surface. See similar questions...

With a Woodgrain standard layout the bottom rail is usually the largest rail. Please note the standard rail sizes of our various door heights below Before applying the first coat of finish, sand the entire surface lightly with 5/0 sandpaper (180 grit). Very gradually, the inside of the tipi, above the fire, will get dark as the fabric absorbs the pigments from the smoke. However, the tannic acid and oils in the smoke has a tendency to "tan" and "season" the cover and make it more waterproof and more resistant to deterioration. "Canvas Wrapped" means we deliver it, ready to hang, stretched around a 4cm (2inch) thick wooden frame, strung and taped at the back so dust doesn't get in the crack between the canvas and the frame.
