The California Basic Education Skills Test (CBEST) consists of basic reading, writing and math skills. Application packets for the CBEST are available at the County Office of Education, Human Resources department and at most of the colleges and universities in the area. CBEST exams are administered by the National Evaluation Systems (NES).

Most students pass if they follow all of our guidelines, but if you don't, we allow each student one re-test in each course. Please note that State rules dictate that all re-tests must be also completed no later than ninety days following the last class meeting. The PPST (Pre Professional Skills Test) is required by the State of Nevada for licensure, as well as a majority of states. The CBEST is required only by California and Oregon , and is also accepted by the State of Nevada in lieu of the PPST. Both the PPST and CBEST test on the subjects of Reading , Writing, and Mathematics. Passing scores are a requirement for admission into our teacher education program. If you don't pass the certification exam, you may re-take the exam at no additional fee within a month. If you do not re-take your exam in that time period you will be assessed a $25.00 re-test fee. See similar questions...

If a candidate does not pass the exam they are given the opportunity to re-take the exam on the next exam date. Candidates must complete and submit the Retest Application and submit a fee. After completing the test, your scores will be emailed to you. If your score is less than 85%, a second test--which is different than the first--will also be emailed to you. If you receive less than a 85% score on the second test, you will be emailed a third test, which is different than the previous two tests.
