How do I add a Carriage Return ("Enter") or Tab to data being scanned?

FAQ - PSC / Percon - Decoders
If bar code decoders and scanners did nothing other than read and decipher bar coded labels and send the information they contained to a computer, they would still be incredibly useful and time-saving devices. In comparison to a keyboard, bar code technology offers a vastly more efficient and accurate method for handling repetitive data entry tasks. However, rarely does a decoder/scanner simply decode and pass along only the information contained in a bar code label.

I want to print the Carriage Return (CR) character inside a barcode. What do I need to do ?

Capella Technologies
Some barcodes format support full 128 character set, from ASCII code 0 to ASCII code 127 (bar codes Extended 39, Extended 93, 128A, 128 auto, EAN/UCC 128 and 2D barcodes). If you want to print special characters (ASCII code <32) with those barcodes, a "Transparent Print Data" PCL sequence (<Esc>&p#X, where # is replaced with the number of following data bytes to put in barcode) must follow immediately the font selection sequence. This feature is available for the RS232 and Keyboard Wedge interfaces only. An "Enter" key is comprised of a Carriage Return <CR> and a Line Feed <LF>. To program a <CR>/<LF> scan 0,D,0,A (as shown in the ASCII Character Set table on the back cover of the programming guide). Every Prefix and Suffix must have four characters. Therefore, to program a <CR> whose value is only 0,D you must scan 0,D,0,0 to fill the buffer. See similar questions...

So, to create a carriage return, concatenate a carriage return, Chr(13), with a line feed, Chr(10) like this. <cfset variables.CrLf = Chr(13) & Chr(10)> <cfset MyString = "First line" & variables.CrLf & "Second line"> See similar questions...

Set the options to "button bar". This will allow you to send any ASCII character. Beware of the 255 character, though, this is the telnet escape sequence (the button bar also allows you to send these sequences in complete form). The gateway, due to its nature, creates separate links to your terminal and to the site you're connecting to. Even though it tries to keep track of the link to your terminal, it can sometimes get confused, mainly due to limitations in the HTTP protocol and many proxies. See similar questions...
