Some movie subtitles may appear in the black letterboxing below the movie image. If you use automated screen masking, the subtitles may then be obscured by the mask. The Kaleidescape System now offers the option of repositioning subtitles within the movie image.

You should see a green arrow shaped icon in your systemtray (right-bottom of your screen). That is DirectVobSub. Right-click on that icon to enable or disable the subtitles.

Subtitles can only be placed on top of the video. Placing the subtitles below the original video is possible by enlarging the video frame. You need to SET UP the disc by selecting SET UP from the Picture This DVD main menu. There you can choose which subtitles or closed-captions you would like to appear. In most cases, you can also choose none. From this menu you can also select between regular 2-channel stereo (2.0) or 5.1 Dolby Surround Sound (5.1).

During the summer holidays there are local shows every weekend throughout Devon. While you are streaming an episode, if you see a "T" icon on the flash player, it means that external subtitles is available for this episode. What this means is that you can turn the subtitles on or off simply by clicking on the "T" icon.

You can also get to the options by clicking on the Haali Media Splitter shortcut in the start menu. Once you are in the Options screen, click on 'Languages'. There you can set the preferred language(s) for audio and subtitles. The language should be input using a three character code, for example eng for English.

English movies do not contain subtitles unless it is stated clearly. However, most of our Chinese movies contain English subtitles.

Subtitles. Because I like hearing foreign languages spoken. I think it adds a whole new layer to the whole viewing experience to hear the intonations and sounds of the native language in which a film was made. This doesn't just apply to anime. I prefer subtitles for any foreign language movie I see.
