The speed difference between the women and the pro/1/2 race doesn't leave enough room for the women to complete three laps without being caught by the pro/1/2 men.

Yes, women have both competed in and won the Iditarod. In fact, women have raced in every Iditarod since 1974, and currently about a dozen women run the race every year. Two women have won the race. Libby Riddles was the first woman to win the race when she braved her way through a storm in the 1985 Iditarod. Susan Butcher has won four Iditarods in the years 1986, 1987, 1988, and 1990.

There are lots of ways to get in laps -- practice days, morning practice, Championship races, running a division with multiple classes. In the actual event, you are only guaranteed one lap. After that it's up to you to get more laps. You must win in order to advance and race more. It depends how many drivers are registered in a class as to how many laps each event will run.

LAPS is the Local Analysis and Prediction System. It uses a broad set of observations to produce a gridded analysis for various weather elements for this local area. It typically runs on a 10 km resolution grid. MSAS is the MAPS Surface Assimilation System. It is a national analysis that uses METARs and local (LDAD) observations to generate a surface grid at a 60 km resolution. IFPS is the Interactive Forecast Preparation System.

In the SLO Triathlon, you will be swimming widths instead of laps so that more participants will fit in the pool at one time. Each swimmer will swim 18 laps, a total of 36 widths.

NSC is a lot more than laps. Or starts & turns. Yes you will be expected to practice your strokes and swim laps but we also have a lot of fun. There are games of Shark and Chicken. We usually have a couple of team outings to places like Bowl-O-Rama, the Newington Skate Center, and LaserQuest. Meets are competitive and often very exciting. More than anything else it is a great group of kids (and parents) ? and coaches that have a great time together.

Short course: 1/2 mile = 18 laps (over and back (50 yards) equals 1 lap, 1 mile = 36 laps; Long course: 1/2 mile = 9 laps (down and back (100 meters) equals 1 lap, 1 mile = 18 laps.

All paid entrants will have access to three separate dynamic Driving Skills courses, which include the practice track. We strongly encourage you attend these Driving Skills courses so you'll know what to expect when you get to the competition phase of the event. We also recommend that you attend the instructional classroom sessions as well. If you have time, you can test your skills on the Karting track, too. Not necessarily.
