If your temporary crown is loose and you are not experiencing any discomfort, there is no emergency. Just contact our office during regular business hours to schedule an appointment so we can recement. If after hours and you can temporarily recement it by placing a dab of vaseline, toothpaste or denture adhesive inside the crown and placing it back on your tooth with finger pressure.

If the crown fits the tooth fairly tightly and the tooth is a little sensitive, you can place cream (not powder) denture adhesive, toothpaste or Vaseline inside the crown and place it back on your tooth. This will hold it on if you can come in to the office the same day. If the tooth is not sensitive, it will not hurt to leave the crown off for up to 3 days. If you leave it off longer than three days, the tooth may shift, affecting the fit of the crown.

If you have one of the exposed Type K thermocouples you can break away some of the ceramic at the end and twist the two wires together. Or you can use an acetylene torch to reweld the tip (using Borax to dip the hot tip into afterwards to prevent undue oxidation). This may get you by for a little while. There is no way to repair one of the industrial metal sheathed thermocouples.

Our incredible CEREC system allows us to perform the entire crown procedure in one visit, eliminating the need for a temporary crown and second visit. However, we are available to help you if a temporary crown does come off or break.

Wait till you’re done. The substance used when taking an impression will pop your temporary off. It won’t eat your teeth. People who abuse the system might develop sensitivity to their teeth, but this will subside. Wearing it for 24 to 48 consecutive hours could cause sensitivity.

You can, but it is very much weaker as the repair material usually only bonds mechanically, so can come off much more easily.

If it's some herbivores or bugs don't panic. If it's a T-Rex, raptor or a gigantosarus it's Game Over unless you have got superb security!

We will place a temporary crown or bridge to protect your teeth and gum tissues while a custom restoration is being created for you in a dental laboratory. In addition, this temporary will help prevent the adjacent teeth from shifting, ensuring that your final custom-crafted crown or bridge will fit. Temporary cement will be used to hold the restoration in place.

Minimise the use of the side of your mouth with the temporary crown. Shift the bulk of your chewing to the other side of your mouth. Avoid sticky and chewy foods (e.g. chewing gum, caramel) which have the potential of grabbing and pulling off the crown. Slide flossing material out-rather than lifting out-when cleaning your teeth. Lifting the floss, out as you normally would, might pull off the temporary crown.

A temporary is specifically designed to cover the exposed area of your tooth because it's critical to keep this area clean and bacteria free. If your temporary comes off during office hours, just give us a call and we'll promptly work you in. If your temporary comes off after hours, you may purchase a temporary cement at your local drug store or use Vaseline to place the crown back in place until the office opens.

If you notice a band or bracket is loose, call the office to have it replaced. If either comes completely off, please bring it to your appointment.
