A3. Stainless steel cannot transfer heat fast enough to allow the spark plug to properly cool. It is also very difficult to break off the installation tang during an in-frame repair.

A5. Coil type thread repair inserts have a difficult time sealing because it is impossible to seal completely around the coiled wire. Full-Torque inserts can seal up to 3,000 psi.

On a Civic, the stock plugs are made by NGK and the performance is fine even for tuned applications. Unless you are doing serious modifications such as forced induction, etc.. there is not need to change the plugs to aftermarket ones. They may offer more spark, etc.. but it's unlikely that you will notice a difference.

Nope, the threads can easily be repaired. Just go to your local auto-parts store and pick up a spark plug thread repair kit. There are a few different ones available, but I prefer the one that reams and re-taps the hole with the same tool. It comes with everything you need to do the job. The inserts are stainless steel and if the job is properly done, the repair is actually an improvement. The kit should probably cost somewhere in the $15-20 range.

Electronic ignition has been around a long time; it was invented by Chrysler and used on their cars starting in 1971 or 1972, but didn't hit some automakers until years later (Volkswagen in 1980 - when they already had multiple-point electronic fuel injection!). The system is a computer-controlled way to deliver power to spark plugs without cumbersome and maintenance-heavy breaker points, and with better timing and far higher levels of current.

A3. The crack will spread when the bolt is tightened into the inserts. Only a Full-Torque thread repair insert can pull the crack back together.

Most forum members agree that the stock Champions are just as good under most conditions as considerably more expensive plugs, including Bosch Platinums. Some have said that the "performance gains" claimed by some are due only to the use of new plugs, rather than special new plugs. The best oil is synthetic - it provides more protection during cold starts, when most engine wear occurs, and is more durable than standard oils.

A Champion D-16 can be used in all British Seagulls. If you have the Mk 1 and Mk 2 ignitions, then you use a gap of .020". If you have the Mk3 Wipac ignition, then your gap must be no less than .035" You should always carry a spare plug as it is the easiest fix on a seagull. Note that the very early seagulls - the 102 styles specified a gap of .015 to .018". This was due to the fuel used at the time and now a gap of .020" is recommended.

No, you can not use a copper wire, or solid core harness. You have to use a noise suppression (a.k.a. resistive) spark plug wire in order to prevent unwanted RF noise from damaging the controller. Electroair supplies the appropriate harness wire with attaching hardware to complete your installation.

A7. Only in light duty applications where a hole is stripped or in soft metal like aluminum to help prevent the bolt hole from stripping. A8. The crack will spread when the bolt is tightened. Installing a Full-Torque thread repair insert will draw the crack together as it is installed and will hold it together after the bolt is tightened.

If the entrance hole is plugged, the bees will look for another exit. They may find another crack or opening or they could follow light and enter your living quarters instead through gaps in baseboard, electrical outlets or vents.

Both the VE and VG use the NGK plug as a stock spark plug. The VE requires a platinum plug, which can run fairly expensive, at about $9/plug. I don't have the part numbers for this plug yet. The VG also uses an NGK plug, but they are non-platinum and cost just over $1/plug. Part numbers: Standard Type BKR6ES-11; Hot Type BKR5ES-11; Cold Type BKR7ES-11; Plug Gap 0.039 - 0.043 in (1.0 - 1.1 mm). Check your coolant level. this is a common problem.

The spark plug is what causes ignition. It takes a voltage surge from the coil through the distributor, and produces a high voltage spark that ignites the compressed/boosted air fuel mixture within each cylinder. If everything is working properly and your fuel curve is set appropriately, an even and safe burning of the compressed mixture will result. The piston is pushed down, the crankshaft turns, and the engine runs efficiently.

The thicker the wire, generally speaking the more conductivity you will get. But in mildly tuned applications, you will not likely notice a difference. More often than not, people change them more for looks.

A13. Most plugs are now preset at the factory and shouldn't need to be adjusted. Please refer to your owners handbook/manual for the correct gap setting. If you do not have the data available then we may be able to check it for you.

Moroso and Mr. Gasket make loom kits that route the wires across the top of the valve covers and then drop a pair of plug wires almost straight down between the header tubes. But they only work if you have 90 degree boots on straight plug heads (some angle plug heads have spark plug clearance problems). If you keep the slack in the plug wires to a minimum, the plug wires survive just fine. These kits are especially nice if you have A/C as they allow a fairly tight clearance to the head.

The fuel filter is located in the fuel tank.We recommend changing the fuel filter yearly. To remove the filter, drain your unit of fuel and remove the fuel cap/retainer assembly from the tank. Pull the filter from the tank and remove it from the end of the fule line. Install the new filter and reassemble.
