Concrete allows us to build a better court, guaranteeting the base for 10 years. One of our chief concerns is durability, and steel reinforced concrete meets that goal. On a DeShayes game court you will experience years of enjoyment because we used the combination of a concrete base for a durable foundation and a suspended sports surface for player comfort and safety.

Using steel reinforced concrete is important. Our normal concrete specification is 4 inches of 4000-psi concrete installed over a sub-base of 3/4" clean stone. We use half-inch #4 steel rebar 30 " on center each way as reinforcement.

Regular rFoil is made up of a layer of bubbles between two layers of foil. The lime in the concrete will dissolve the foil in just a few years. Concrete Barrier is made of a layer of foil between two layers of bubbles. The bubbles protect the foil from the lime, making it a better choice. It's also puncture resistant up to 85 psi, compression resistant up to 140 psi, is a vapor and radon barrier, and is much easier to use than 2" foam board.

Answer: Tied concrete shoulders (with tie bars) provide stress reduction along the longitudinal joint between the outside lane and the shoulder. The largest amount of stress from truck tires is along the outside edge of pavement, so the tied shoulder spreads the load more uniformly across the longitudinal joint. An asphalt concrete shoulder does not connect to the PCC and does not provide that edge support like a tied PCC shoulder.

A hard level surface is recommended. Placing the unit on a surface that is not hard and level can cause the unit to perform poorly or shut off due to activation of the safety tilt switch.

StreetPrint? can be installed very quickly with relatively little disruption, so it is usually much less costly and disruptive than concrete alternatives. StreetPrint? uses asphalt as its base. Asphalt is a flexible surface that is more likely to accept shifting due to weather extremes and can resist cracking commonly associated with other paving systems. Vehicle braking/accelerating and steering will not shift or break StreetPrint?, as often happens with brick pavers.

Concrete is an inexpensive and durable option, but it will crack. Pavers are more expensive but last longer, provide more of an interest from a design perspective, and are easily repaired if earth shifting occurs. Stone creates a beautiful and natural look but is the most expensive option. Many stone applications can be sandset, which is flexible to ground shifting. Occasionally stone requires a mortar setting, which is less tolerant of ground shifting.

During periods of moderate to warm weather, new concrete could be opened for pedestrian traffic in twelve to twenty-four hours, or when the surface becomes "scuff resistant." A general guideline is that new concrete should not be opened for vehicular traffic for a minimum of seven days. This seven-day period can be significantly reduced by using a faster setting, stronger concrete mix.

No. However, the installer should avoid accumulating concrete in one spot. This can overburden the shoring and cause it to fail. A concrete pump is preferred because delivery can be closely controlled. No. That must be provided by a structural engineer who is licensed for the type and location of the project. For the do it yourselfer I would strongly recommend it. I would also level each one with a transit type level. Building pools on the firm Arizona ground as I do blocks are seldom used.
