The PVP procedure is generally considered to be very safe. Most patients report a very high level of satisfaction. Patients may experience slight burning during urination and/or a little bit of blood in the urine for a couple of weeks. Some men may experience more severe symptoms, which can be easily treated by Dr. Shaw. Retrograde ejaculation, or "dry climax" following treatment may occur.

The GreenLight PV Laser System is a patented green light laser that provides the energy to perform the PVP procedure. A thin fiber is inserted into the urethra through a cystoscope, an instrument that allows the doctor to examine the bladder and prostate. The fiber delivers green laser energy that quickly vaporizes and precisely removes enlarged prostate tissue. Dr. Shaw is able to safely view and control the treatment area, tailoring it to your individual anatomy and needs.

Patients with bladder atony or neurogenic bladder (especially in diabetes mellitus) may not respond to the procedure.

The "tissue-friendly" KTP laser used in Greenlight PVP causes minimal tissue reaction surrounding the cavity - making impotence very unlikely.

The risks involved are similar to those of a standard angioplasty or minimally invasive heart surgery. To date, VesCell™ therapy has produced no significant side effects or adverse permanent complications. However, any therapy may have side effects. Therefore, we cannot guarantee that no complications will occur. ECP carries little or no risk. Some patients experience a bit more fatigue at the beginning, but this usually goes away after the first few treatments. In fact, patients typically feel energized by the treatment.

The possibility exists that some side effects or complications can occur given various variables, including: Side effects occur infrequently and are generally temporary. If any of the above last for more than 3 days, make sure to contact your technician and/or doctor. There is a possibility that settings were set too high and the technician needs to know in order to make adjustments on your next treatment.

All surgery has risks. The vast majority of these operations go perfectly well with excellent results and happy patients. The risk of bad results in this surgery is quite rare, but can include creases that do not form where they are planned, and can be too low or high, or not deep enough, or not exactly the same in both eyes. Any surgery has a risk of bleeding and infection. These are very rare in this surgery. Scars can heal abnormally and be visible.

GreenLight PVP is performed in a hospital or ambulatory surgery center. Patients may be released after a few hours or after an overnight stay.

Yes. The rate of retrograde ejaculation is about 30% within the first 3 months post-PVP. This is usually temporary. The muscle fibers around the bladder neck can be preserved by the KTP laser used in PVP and thus avoid retrograde ejaculation. See PVP presentation.

Some people with sensitive skin may develop a rash that will disappear in a few days. A few people have had an allergic reaction to the Applicator. In these cases the rash is more severe and we recommend that they discontinue using the product.

Dr. Paley had performed over 2,000 Sinu-Clear (tm) procedures in the past 10 years without any major complications. The only complications experienced by less than 1 percent of our patients have been significant bleeding (usually as a result of high blood pressure) or infection which required antibiotics. It is important to continue taking blood pressure medications even on the day of surgery to keep blood pressure and bleeding under control.

Nothing in life comes free, and liposuction is no exception. Some bruising and discomfort can be expected after the operation, although it's usually not too bad and resolves within a few weeks. There are the standard risks associated with anesthesia (allergy to the medicine, increased risk if you are not healthy, etc.), which you will need to discuss with your doctor and/or anesthesiologist.
