What is Electrolytic Tin Plate?

Weirton Steel: Tin Mill Products FAQ
Electrolytic Tin Plate is black plate with an electrodeposited coating of tin. It usually has a coating of chemical treatment (chrome-chrome oxide

Can you make a switch plate for me if I send you a tin?

Switch Plates Made From Old Tin Cans FAQs
Absolutely! Email me for an instruction sheet that outlines specifics when choosing your tin. Custom made single switch plates are $20.00, doubles are $22.00 and outlet covers are $21.00. What is the thickness of the oil applied to tin plate?

Weirton Steel: Tin Mill Products FAQ
The application of the oil is so light that, in general, one teaspoon of oil can cover the area of a football field. See similar questions...

Are all coatings compatible with passivated tin plate?

Weirton Steel: Tin Mill Products FAQ
Passivated tin plate is the same as chemically treated tin plate. There is some evidence suggesting that certain adhesion failures of epoxy-phenolic lacquers on passivated tin plate are related to a combination of substrate conditions, lacquer formulations and application practices. When tin plate is to be coated with epoxy-phenolic lacquers, it is suggested this be reviewed with the mill when steel is ordered. See similar questions...

What is the thickness of the tin coating on tin plate or chrome coating on TFS?

Weirton Steel: Tin Mill Products FAQ
The thickness of the tin coating for .25# coating is nominally 0.000015" on each surface. The thickness of the chrome coating is nominally 0.0000003" on each surface. See similar questions...

What is used to put line or geometric marks on the tin plate and how does it work?

Weirton Steel: Tin Mill Products FAQ
Line marking is done using a mixture of approximately 1-4 grams per liter of soda ash and water. This causes a slight change in the rate at which the tin is melted on the surface and the result is marking on the surface. Standard marking is lines on the heavier coated side or geometric marking on the light coated side. See similar questions...

What is the difference between an Electrolytic & an Electroless Bath?

New Brunswick Plating, Inc.
Unlike conventional electrolytic nickel, no electrical current is required for deposition of Electroless Nickel. The electroless bath provides a deposit that follows all contours of the substrate exactly, without building up at the edges and corners. A sharp edge receives the same thickness of deposit as does an internal diameter. See similar questions...

Do we chrome plate?

Frequently Asked Questions - Alloy Polishing Co.
Not in house, however, if you have polishing and plating, we would be more than happy to send the plating out for you. We can also prep for plating, usually by special request. If your part needs more attention to detail (nooks and crannies prepped perfect, or ‘especially’ flat surfaces) than the guys at the plating shop can give it, we would then do the pre-polish. This can be a little bit more cost on average, but it will be ‘super’ show quality. See similar questions...

What's on your plate?

Table of Contents
Restricting your food intake too much leaves you hungry and downright irritable. (You know that!) When you restrict calories, such as when you start a traditional "diet" or skip meals, the body instantly goes into "survival mode" and sends very powerful signals, telling your body to hoard fat and your brain to find food fast. Right now! Why? Because it thinks it's starving, and it doesn't know when it will get food again. See similar questions...

Are there many problems associated with Tin Plating?

New Brunswick Plating, Inc.
There are many problems associated with tin plating. One of which is whiskering, like cadmium and zinc, thin needle-like crystals known as "whiskers" form within a period after plating that may vary from a few weeks to several years. A whisker may measure up to .0001" (2.5um) in diameter, and grow spontaneously to a length of 0.375" (10 mm). Conditions that tend to promote the growth of whiskers are compressive stresses and uniform temperatures for long periods of time. See similar questions...

So, I've opened an aged tin. Now what?

G. L. Pease - Frequently Asked Questions
This is a little tricky. Once the seal of the tin is broken, the delicate balance present in that little ecosystem is permanently altered. You can't go back! So, once that tin is open, either smoke its contents fairly quickly, or transfer it to air-tight containers, like bail-top canning jars. The aging process from this point on will be different, but the tobacco will remain in fine condition for your enjoyment as long as it's kept in good condition. See similar questions...

Why would I find Black Spots on Tin & Tin/Lead Plating?

New Brunswick Plating, Inc.
Fretting is a common problem with Tin Plating. This is surface damage created when there is relative motions and strong contacts between parts, usually during shipping and handling. The tin plating shows black or worn spots caused by rubbed or scratched by another part. This oxide does not effect the parts functionally. They are still solderable. A way to eliminate fretting is by changing the type of packaging. (Layer packing or plastic trays are recommended) - Metal Finishing Guidebook 1997 See similar questions...

How does an electrolytic cell work?

Frequently Asked Questions
Electrochemical reactions are heterogeneous chemical reactions that occur through the transfer of charge across the interface between an electrode and an electrolyte. The basic design of any electrolytic cell is the same and requires a complete electrical circuit including: electrodes (an anode and a cathode); ionic contact via an electrolyte between the electrodes; and electrical contact via an external electrical circuit between the electrodes. What about electrolytic capacitors? Can they be re-formed?

rec.antiques.radio+phono Frequently Asked Questions part 6
Roy Morgan sent in a drill for re-forming old caps. Keep in mind that some caps won't come back to life. The "wets" from the early thirties generally have internal problems and corrosion, and a lot of the axials have dried out internally. Note that a "dry" electrolytic has a moist gauze with electrolyte inside---what makes them "dry" is that the electrolyte doesn't slosh around. "Dry" can types, like the Mallory FP series, often will come back to life with a re-forming. See similar questions...

How do I hook up the electrolytic capacitor ??

XCOM760 VHF Aircraft Radio - FAQ
Hopefully this simple diagram will assist you in hooking up the electrolytic capacitor. Please make sure the capacitor is fitted on the power supply side of the fuse as shown in the attached diagram. Try and keep all of the wires as short as possible and position the capacitor close to the radio for best performance. Please note that the capacitor is polarity sensitive, that is there is a positive and negative side to the capacitor. The first 100 radios manufactured had substandard LCD screens. What is the difference between Electroless and Bright Electrolytic Nickel?

Welcome to The Lindgren Companies
While both processes are depositing a nickel composite on the substrate, Electroless nickel uses a chemical catalyst to facilitate the plating reaction as opposed to the Electrical current used in the Bright Nickel plating process. There are noticeable differences in appearance. Part configuration, design application and function are considerations when deciding on which process is recommended. See similar questions...
