You should describe any breast symptoms or problems with your private doctor as well as the technologist performing the examination. The technologist will make special notation of your symptoms and history in your chart. This information will be of value to the physician who will interpret your mammogram. Interpretations of a mammogram can be difficult because a normal breast can appear differently for each woman.

To prepare for a mammogram, you should dress comfortably in a two-piece outfit. (You will need to undress from the neck to the waist.) Please do not apply powders, deodorants or creams to your underarms or breasts – they may interfere with the clarity of an X-ray.

No specific preparation is required. Please do not use powders, talc, lotion or deodorant on the breast and in the underarm area. For your comfort and convenience, two piece outfits are recommended. If you have had mammograms in the past at any other facility, you will be asked to bring the films with you to your scheduled exam.

The American Cancer Society recommends that women age 40 and older should have a screening mammogram yearly. Some physicians recommend a baseline screening mammogram at an earlier age, between 35 and 40, so changes in later screenings may be more evident. If you have a first degree relative that has had breast cancer your first mammogram and regular mammography screening may be started at a younger age.

Yes. Projections such as compression spots or magnification views are acceptable as long as they demonstrate the cyst/mass in 2 planes, and the cyst/mass has been clearly marked. The ACR Breast Ultrasound Accreditation Program Requirements specify that the "facility name and location" should be recorded on each image of the study. The location could be as basic as city and state; it does not need to be the full address.

As with all disasters, being able to keep you and your family warm, fed, hydrated, and supplied with vital medications is critical. If islanders are prepared individually, the islands will survive collectively. During a pandemic, power, water, and other essential services will likely continue without interruption, but access to food, fuel, and routine healthcare may be limited.

The preparation for the colonoscopy requires you to go the bathroom a lot! You follow a special diet the day before the exam and take very strong laxatives in the hours before the procedure. You may also need an enema to cleanse the colon. The key to getting good pictures is to have the colon cleaned out. Preparation for a sigmoidoscopy is much the same. Because colonoscopy is usually done under sedation, people usually will miss a day of work.

For the courtesy of others, be on time. Allow extra time to fill out a medical information sheet if this is your first visit. Bring dark glasses in case your eyes are dilated following treatment. Arrange for a ride home if you are advised to do so, or if you feel more comfortable.

Yes. Our radiologist needs to see how this mammogram compares with your previous exams. This allows us to identify any subtle changes as well as eliminate the need for further imaging and even a biopsy.

You do not need to have a mammogram just because you have started HRT. The NHS breast screening programme invites women between the ages of 50 and 70 to attend for routine mammograms every 3 years. There is no need to have more frequent mammograms because you are taking HRT. Of course, if you develop any new breast symptoms, it is important to see your doctor. This applies to all women regardless of whether or not they are taking HRT.
