This is an optical drive that will write both DVDs (Digital Versatile Disk, Data or Video) and CDs. The LightScribe DVD+/-RW / CDRW combination drive can read, write and, using the appropriate media, rewrite a variety DVD and CD media, including CD-R, CD-RW, DVD+R, DVD-R, DVD+R DL, DVD-R DL, DVD+RW and DVD-RW. DVD+R, DVD-R and CD-R media are compatible with this drive but are a single write media. The DVD+RW, DVD-RW and CD-RW media can be written to multiple times.

Please download the flash program "XXXXXXXX" and the lastest firmware, close all running programs, then excute "XXXXXXXX" and specify the firmware file, follow the instructions showen on screen and update will complete after shutdown your system and reboot. It is very likely to be resulted from lower DAE capability of the CD-ROM, we suggest to record in lower speed, or extract CD track to hard drive before recording.

Currently, no "first" or "second generation" drives have been shipped with the new firmware version factory installed. Therefore, it is highly unlikely that your drive will already be equiped with this new version. The latest software for the PORTADISC MDP 500 is version 1.50. The version is shown briefly after power up on the MDP’s boot-up page. If your MDP contains a version other than v1.50, contact your dealer for instructions on getting your MDP updated to the current release.

After installing GIDEON CD and trying to run a different application, the application won't start and I get an error message saying: "This application uses CTL3D32.DLL, which is not the correct version. This version of CTL3D32.DLL is designed only for Windows '95 systems.

This is how you can check your Firmware version number. Press Menu and go to the setup menu (blue wrench on the left). Go in, and then select screen #1. Hold down the center OK button on the 4-way switch and at the same time press the Info button (i+) at the top. This will display a little dialog with the primary version of the firmware. While that screen is visible again press the AEL button and the Info button together.
