Because Biblioscape database tables have fixed length records, the database files are very large. But if you compress the files, a 10 MB database can easily fit onto a single floppy disk. For this you need zip software; we recommend using WinZip (www.winzip.com). Run WinZip, click on the "New" button. Select the floppy drive and give a zip file name. Click on the "Add" button and go to the directory where your Biblioscape database files are located.

You can create links or shortcuts to other folders and place them in your specified Music Library Folder. The contents of the linked folders will then be part of your Music Library.

The ZIP drives in our lab machines are set up to use the automounter. The automounter will automatically mount the drive for you when you access it, and unmount it when it is not being used. If you want to use Ext2fs (linux) formatted ZIP disks in the lab, make sure you create a filesystem on the disk in the lab before using it by typing: /sbin/mke2fs /dev/zip so that the ZIP disk is formatted with your user permissions.

Not legally. Again, the license is good only on a single machine, even if there is no way anyone might use the product on another machine. Hopefully All Topo Maps are reasonably priced and you will purchase a copy for every machine that they are run on. I originally installed a BETA, or Not For Resale version of All Topo Maps (or I installed a friends copy on my machine, but have since purchased my own copy of All Topo Maps). If you can only afford one, definitely go with the 2". I would say that most of my bowl, hollow form and faceplate work under 10" is done with a 2" pad. The pads are less expensive and so are the disks. 3" is great for the outsides of bowls and convex shapes and the inside of larger bowls or more gradual curves. Too tight of a curve and the 3" pad will only hit the edges of the disk and not the center. For large work and especially large platters, 3" is good.

USB 2.0 support for ZFS has been enabled in Solaris 10 Update 2 and Solaris Express. USB 1.1 support for ZFS is only available in Solaris Express now. Do not hot-remove a USB disk with non-replicated ZFS filesystem when I/O operations are going on.

That depends on your broadband connection and its transmission rate. Typically, if you have a DSL, Cable modem, or T-1 you should be able to back up your entire drive in one night. Once your first backup is done, it will not have to be done again and daily backups typically take only a few minutes a day since we only send Delta Block incremental level changes, even with 56K dial-up modems.

Disk Groups help you organize Dynamic Disks and help to prevent data loss. Windows 2000 allows only one Disk Group per computer (this may change). Disk Groups can organize storage when you use Veritas LDM-Pro. A Disk Group uses a name consisting of the computer name plus a suffix of Dg0. If you use LDM-Pro, the suffix can be incremental, such as Dg1 or Dg2. To view the name of your disk group, see the following registry entry:

The amount of memory rdiff-backup uses should not depend much on the size of directories being processed. Keeping track of hard links may use up memory, so if you have, say, hundreds of thousands of files hard linked together, rdiff-backup may need tens of MB. If rdiff-backup seems to be leaking memory, it is probably because it is using an early version of librsync. librsync 0.9.5 leaks lots of memory. Later versions should not leak and are available from the librsync homepage.

The following instructions assume that you created the backup using WinZip software as mentioned above. Insert the last floppy disk of the set in your floppy disk drive and open the zip file on this floppy disk corresponding to TaalMala installation using WinZip software. After you have unzipped the installation package, use the original serial number and registration code provided to you for installation. If you have any problems, contact us.

In a word, "No". You can use any style you want with any song in the fake disk. When compiling the disks, I chose a style which I think suited the song well. If you do not have that style you can choose another. If you do have that style, you can still choose another. You may not agree with my choice.

For the first attempt to read in an original disk, always use the default settings, without specifying any options on the command line. The default settings will read each track with the standard bit rate and will not read halftrack information. In my experience this is sufficient for 90% of all original disks. Specifying any options will rather harm then help with these disks.

If you request it, we will store your images on a plain CD or DVD disk with no slide show. On our standard disks, we store the high resolution images of your slide scans on the CD and you should be able to pull the images onto your Mac if you have the correct extensions loaded. We do not have a Mac that we can experiment with but we have read that you need to load the Foreign File Access Extension.

You will need the Winzip software and three 1.44 MB floppy disks for this. If your computer does not have Winzip installed, you can download an evaluation copy of the software from www.winzip.com. It is also assumed that you have downloaded the software from the internet and saved the exe installation file on your hard disk. Add the TaalMala installation exe file (the installation package you downloaded from the internet) to this new archive.

The amount of time required to backup files is very much dependant on your Internet connection, how much data, and what type of data you want to send to our servers. We recommend that after your initial backup, which may be quite large, you only backup changed files which results in a much smaller backup. You can limit the total amount of data that may be transferred during each backup.
