CD's are read from the centre out, therefore any increase in capacity is commensurate with the width and length of the card. For example a 80mm round disc will hold 210MB and a normal 5" CDR 700MB.

Almost* all cd recorders manufacturer within the last several years are compatible with this media, as it's become an industry standard. The older your recorder is, the greater the chance is that your recorder may not be compatible. Because of its design, these media are for use with tray-loading recorders/players only (not for caddy-loading devices). 3-inch cd-r's have a higher compatibility rate over business card cd-r's, due to their design.

A CD-ROM holds 650 MB of data or 74 minutes of audio. A CD-R can hold up to 700 MB of data or 80 minutes of audio.

The ROM card is replicated the same as a regular 5" CD with silk screen, litho of digital on-body print. It is not a viable option for order quantities of fewer than 500 cards. You can now print onto "Photo Quality High Gloss Labels" for CD-R Business Cards. We also stock a unique "Easy to Use" Label Applicator to apply the labels accurately and provide downloadable templates. The label option gives a far superior finish when compared with directly printing onto the cards with in jet printable surfaces.

Most new users are starting in the latest version, ACT-R 6. Some users still use ACT-R 5 or 4. Only one user we know of, working with legacy code, is still using ACT-R 3 (he is lonely). Hardware changes in the recorders allow the creation of data marks approximately one-half the size of those made on CD-R media. The recording laser's wavelength and the focusing lens'numerical aperture were changed. Additionally, DVD-RAM substrates are injection molded to one-half the thickness of a CD-R. Two DVD-RAM substrates are bonded together, creating multiple recording surfaces.

CD-R stands for Compact Disc-Recordable and can be recorded only once. You may continue to add files until the CD is full as long as the disc is not closed (write-protected). You cannot delete, rename, rearrange, or alter the files or file structure on the CD after recording. CD-RW stands for Compact Disc-Rewritable. It allows you to record the disc and then erase the entire disc and start over. You cannot select certain files to delete; you must erase the entire disc.

To backup to a CD-RW, you must have packet writing software (DirectCD, InCD, etc.) installed. You will need to format your CD with this software. This will provide a drive letter for you to use as the destination for the backup job. EZBack-it-up has no built-in support for CD-R's. However, you can still use it to create an archive that you can then use with your CD burning software.

It is best to record your audio files as a .wav file. An .mp3 file is a .wav file in which some data has been discarded in order to reduce the file size. The computer chooses which data to discard based on what the listener will least notice. You might be able to “compress” an eroding.wav file into .mp3 format later on and end up with a reasonably good .mp3. However, because the .wav file has already lost so much when it was converted to .mp3, a further loss from the aging of an .
