For photographic and fine art editions, our ideal file format is a flattened RGB tiff. We also accept jpegs, PDFs, and native Adobe PhotoShop formats. You can provide a disk that will be used in a computer-to-plate process. If you wish to control the process, you may work through the proofing process and provide a contract proof and a disk ready to rip and make plates. Format: jpg, jpeg and gifs are accepted. Sometimes a file has a .jpg or other acceptable extention but is mislabeled and is not truely in an acceptable format. In such cases the image may not upload properly. Resolution: A resolution returned with a 50k file size is more than adequate. Files of more than 250k in file size do not upload automatically. To ensure that your pictures come out as crisp and clear as you see them on your monitor, we highly recommend that you save all your .tiffs at 300 dpi. Most wide format scanners are very good. They are also very expensive. However, if you have a requirement for a large scanner then the investment is almost certainly worth the cost. In our experience, we found that both Colortrac and Contex Scanning Technology produce very good and cost effective scanners. The choice of JPEG format over GIF for the larger images was made for two different reasons. The first is a matter of size. In most cases, the JPEG images are smaller. In order to reduce the load on both our server machine as well as on the network and users machine, it was felt that using JPEG compression was a reasonable alternative.
