A minimum of 100 ppi (pixels per inch) at the final output size is suggested. (An example would be: 6"x6" original to be output 20"x20". 20 divided by 6 = 3.3. So you are enlarging your image 4 times. 4x100ppi = 400 ppi. You should scan your original at 400 ppi, when your image is enlarged 4 times the resolution goes down 4 times, resulting in a 20x20 at 100 ppi.) Tests have shown that images can be printed at much larger sizes, depending on the image type and screen ruling used. On composite inkjet devices, customers regularly reproduce our images on posters at A0 sizes and larger. For photographic and fine art editions, our ideal file format is a flattened RGB tiff. We also accept jpegs, PDFs, and native Adobe PhotoShop formats. Optimum image resolution is 300-360 dpi at the final size to be printed. Resolution below 150 dpi may show pixilation. Display and design files can be submitted in most popular design programs, such as InDesign, Illustrator, or Quark. Please accompany design files with image links and fonts (or outlined fonts).

Unless otherwise specified, and if the original images have the resolution, our output is 8x10, .jpg and sRGB. If the original image is small we normally do not stretch the image to an 8x10 format, instead leave the original dimensions intact. We do not have change the aspect ratio of images other than if required.

My standard file format is JPG in full resolution (10.2 mega pixels). The recommended printing sizes vary picture by picture, but I have seen very nice poster size enlargements from my pictures.

We can print Black & White and the four process colors used in offset printing (Cyan [C], Magenta [M], Yellow [Y]and Black [K]). When these four colors are printed with halftone screens of various angles in this subtractive print method, they create oranges, reds, violets, and so on.

The optimum resolution for large format printing is 150 dpi at the final printed size. If the digital picture is between 72 and 150 dpi at the final printed size and has good quality colour and contrast then it should be fine.

You can provide a disk that will be used in a computer-to-plate process. If you wish to control the process, you may work through the proofing process and provide a contract proof and a disk ready to rip and make plates. (Due to variations in the digital proofing process, we will need to make a proof calibrated to our printing process to compare with the proof provided. Additional system work may be required to assure the printed product will match your contract proof.
