Missouri school buses are exempt from paying federal fuel excise tax but must pay Missouri highway/road tax. For an exemption from federal fuel excise tax or a refund of taxes paid contact the IRS (800/829-1040). School districts can purchase dyed fuel that allows the exemption from federal fuel excise tax up front when fuel is purchased (573/751-2611).

OHV recreation is just one of the many uses allowed on National Forest lands. OHV travel is regulated by the OHV travel plan; check with the closest Ranger Station for specific areas. It is your responsibility to know and abide by regulations relating to motor vehicle travel. State law requires registration of all motor vehicles before being operated on public lands.

Off-highway vehicles including motorcycles, quads, jeeps, and full-sized vehicles may generally travel on all BLM improved and unimproved roads, with the exception of a few county roads. For those wishing to travel cross-country, more than 8.3 million acres of public lands in Oregon and Washington are designated as open for cross-country travel. Consult with the BLM District where you want to ride to determine which areas and roads are legal to travel and which are closed.

OHRV operation is prohibited on public roads unless specifically permitted and posted for OHRV use. Examples of permitted uses are road crossings and trail connectors. In such areas the speed limit is 10 MPH and OHRVs must stay to the extreme right side of the public way. They cannot operate from trail head to trail head. <return to top of page>

In 1986, the State Transportation Board passed a resolution adopting Houghton Road as State Route 983 and approving the expansion of Pima Association of Governments' Regional Freeway/Expressway Plan to include the corridor for the future Houghton Road Highway. The resolution did not make Houghton Road a State Highway, but it did allow the Arizona Department of Transportation to study the corridor for possible inclusion in the State Highway System.

This area is called Poleta Canyon and can be accessed by taking East Line Street out of Bishop and traveling approximately 9 miles east. The area will be marked where open riding is allowed.

It is County Council policy to oppose all street trading other than from approved areas where highway safety will not be impaired. To sell goods on such sites a trader's licence must be obtained from the appropriate District Council.
