It's just a matter of preference. I wore a white gi for the first twenty or so years in the Art and Mr. LeRoux for probably the first fifteen. When Black became available we gave them a try and found them more comfortable than having to watch everywhere we sat or what we leaned against, trying to avoid getting a spot on our fresh white uniforms and eventually having to trash them because of stains, when they were still serviceable.
