The procedure is done as an ambulatory surgery. This means that you will come into the hospital on the day of surgery and go home later that afternoon or evening. All the children receive general anesthesia during surgery and go to the recovery room until fully awake.

The average hospital stay for a hip replacement patient is around 3 days. In some cases, fixing one hip reduces the stress on the other hip, thus giving another two or three years if the arthritis is not too advanced. Each individual case is different.

It depends on the complexity of the operation and your recovery. On an average you can go home walking in 7 to 10 days.

Arthroscopic surgery is usually performed as a “day case,” meaning that you can go home the same day as the operation. Some people may need to stay in hospital for a couple of days to recover from the operation, but your surgeon will advise you on this.

In general most of our patients are ready to go home the same day. In cases of more extensive procedures an overnight stay is reasonable for observation but still the majority of those patients will go home the next day. Recovery is fast and most patients are able to resume their regular activities (including work) within 1-2 weeks. That is much faster than the usual 4-6 weeks of recovery after open abdominal surgery.
