When checking tire size it's not necessary to measure anything. The diameter of your existing hubcap or rim is not your wheel/rim size, and will not give you the correct dimension. All tires have a "size series" printed on them that contains the wheel/rim size. This series of numbers usually begins with a P. - (example: P175/70/R15) In the tire "size series" the two digit number following the R denotes your wheel/rim size. (In the example the wheel/rim size is 15")

Grease on the tire or rim is not a normal situation! It indicates that grease is leaking out of the bearings. If the grease is on the front (outside) of the tire/rim suspect that the dust cap was not properly installed. If the grease is on the back (inside) of the tire/rim suspect the grease seal. In either case do not delay in having it corrected. Loss of a sufficient amount of grease could result in higher bearing temperature, bearing failure or worse!
