Rusty Martin started the thing, originally called RMNews. It has been hosted by a number of internet sites, most recently by Leepfrog.com. It is now located on yahoo.com. When Rusty left town, he turned the list over to Linda Yanney, who edits and posts the FAQ and tries to help folks use the system. Although occasionally blessed with a helping hand, the Guide is primarily a one-man operation created and run by John Coughlin. His girlfriend Syrenichol is now an editor and helps out when her busy schedule permits. His goal is to get the community so involved that it will become a community-run project. During its twenty year history of NSF support, the ANSMET program has been funded by the Earth Sciences section in the Office of Polar Programs. This reflects the nature of ANSMET research- we conduct field work in the Transantarctic mountains, collecting rock samples to which geological techniques are applied.
