Because the BLM has a backlog of exchange proposals, we have found that the most efficient procedure in this Resource Area has been to work instead through a third-party. This party goes into the real estate market to secure private lands which can be exchanged with the BLM. These lands are identified in conjunction with the BLM's planning process, to maximize access, consolidate public holdings and enhance management of sensitive resources.

It is the government agency we, as taxpayers, designate to oversee areas like this. They are The Bureau of Land Management. It is their job to see that the land is preserved. It is in their best interest that Glamis stay open for us to ride. They listen to us through the TRT to see how we want our fees spent. To fully explain the mission of the BLM and TRT here is not practical, but you can go to their web sites to learn more.

Yes. If you dredge anywhere in California you must obtain a dredge permit from the Department of Fish and Game. The permit is $75 per year for residents, and more for out of state dredgers. Call Fish and Game for out of state prices. Dredging is allowed on any BLM managed land that is open to mining. Check with the BLM for closures and other mining claims.

Yes. There is no permit required to pan. You can pan on any BLM land, except land which is claimed by someone.

The Campbell Tract is an administrative site used by the BLM's Anchorage Field Office and certain BLM State Office branches. The Tract houses adminstrative offices, a warehouse, shops, communication sites, an active airstrip and heliport, and the Campbell Creek Science Center. The airstrip is available for use in emergencies and for agency use. The open space at Campbell Tract is managed as an outdoor classroom for the Science Center and for non-motorized recreational use.

The Secretary of the Interior has withdrawn the land on Campbell Tract for use by the BLM as an administrative site. Under the Federal Land Policy and Management Act, land can be withdrawn for up to 20 years. The BLM's withdrawal on the Campbell Tract expires in February 2022.

Education is more effective than regulations and environmental remediation in managing public lands. The BLM believes it's more cost effective to educate people about the appropriate use of resources on public lands than it is to restore land after it has been misused.

Yes. You can camp on BLM land for free up to 14 days per calendar year. Some areas are closed to camping, such as developed day use areas, parking lots and some other areas that are posted as closed to camping.

The Horsetown Clear Creek preserve (an agreement is currently in effect with this preserve to close hunting in the area). Public lands are no longer open to homesteading. The Federal Land Policy and Management Act of 1976 repealed the homestead laws in all states except Alaska which was closed to homesteading in 1986. Many parcels of public land are, however, available for acquisition within the Redding Field Office.

BLM does not sell land outright. Land is exchanged at fair market value, not acre for acre. BLM tends to use a third party organization to do large land exchanges (it costs the same whether a quarter of an acre is exchanged or a quarter of a million acres is exchanged). If you are interested in a particular piece of land please write a letter to our office and give the township, range and section of the land, or your best description of the land.

The PEIS is being prepared to meet the requirements established by Congress in Section 369 of the Energy Policy Act of 2005 and to meet the requirements of the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969.

The BLM is an agency in the Department of the Interior, in the U.S. Government. The BLM manages 264 million acres of surface acres of public lands located primarily in the 12 Western States, including Alaska. The agency manages an additional 300 million acres of below ground mineral estate located throughout the country.

It depends upon the legal authority used to issue the easement. For perpetual easements issued under FLPMA, the rent will be calculated by determining the annual rent and multiplying it by 100. Easements issued under MLA for oil and gas pipelines are considered a “term” easement because they are limited to a 30-year term, so the rent will be calculated by determining the annual rent and multiplying it by 30.

The LR2000 system is the official BLM web site for public access to reports from the LR2000 System containing information on land and mineral use authorizations, title transfers, land withdrawals and classifications as well as unpatented mining claims. The GeoCommunicator web sites complements LR2000 by providing interactive mapping for the display of land and mineral use authorization and mining claim record data from NILS and offers an alternative way of linking into LR2000 for reports.

We use the National Forest or BLM maps as a base map to add hunting information. The information added includes hunting unit boundaries, popular and quality hunting areas, and many times a map will show migration routes.

Don't do it! The only exception may be a private road with absolutely no traffic and of course the owners permission to do so.
