Koalas only eat approximately 50 of the 600 different eucalyptus species in Australia. Each koala eats around 400 to 600 grams of eucalyptus leaves each day. Eucalyptus leaves contain approximately 50% water so koalas generally do not need an additional water source. The word "koala" is aboriginal for "doesn’t drink", although they have been known to drink water.

One supplement to the koala's usual diet seems to be dirt. The koala may occasionally eat dirt to adjust deficiencies of minerals in its system. They also occasionally eat bark, flowers and buds of certain eucalypt.

Koalas eat at all times but mostly in the early morning and early evening and during each day consume approximately half a kilogram of leaves

There are approx. 600 species of eucalypt in Australia ? koalas are known to feed on approx. 40-50 species depending on locality. Of this 40-50 they prefer to limit their diet to about 10. Koalas also will eat casuarina, paperbark and corymbia leaves. They eat new and mature leaves, buds, flowers and at times bark but the bulk of their diet consists of leaves.

Across their range in Australia they are found in Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia and are NOT considered endangered but are listed as vulnerable. However, some local isolated populations of koala could be considered endangered due to habitat loss through housing development. Their food trees are threatened and therefore they could face local extinction.

No. Koalas differ in their appearance according to the climatic zone in which they live. In Queensland koalas are grey in colour, have a short thick fur and weigh a maximum of nine kilograms. In Victoria and South Australia koalas are dark brown in colour, have a longer thicker fur and weigh a maximum of 14kg.

Koalas and kangaroos can be seen at sanctuaries and wildlife parks in various places in Southern Queensland including Lone Pine Sanctuary and Australian Woolshed (Brisbane), Australia Zoo (Sunshine Coast) and Currumbin Wild Life Sanctuary and Fleay's Fauna Reserve (Gold Coast).

Surprisingly, no. Anatolians tend to be "easy keepers", and an adult Anatolian will eat between 40 to 60 pounds of premium quality dog chow a month. As a puppy, an Anatolian should be fed a premium puppy food for the first year. Some breeders will use puppy food for the first 18 months, and then switch to a good adult food.

The female reaches sexual maturity at the end of her second year or later and physical maturity at the end of her fourth year. Males - about 3 years sexual maturity and reach physical maturity at 4 years.

stated before, the eucalypt leaf is very low in viable nutrients and koalas have a slightly lower body temperature and consequently a lower metabolic rate than most other mammals, to reduce the amount of energy expended per day. By sleeping 18-20 hours they conserve energy and their waking hours are used to feed, move and seek out mates during the breeding season. They do not get drunk on eucalypt leaves.

In the Wild ? females up to 15-18 years; males 10-15 years. In captivity both can live 15+ years. Legend has it that a koala in Queensland lived to 28 yrs.

Koalas sleep approx. 18 hours out of 24. This is an evolutionary strategy to conserve their energy as the Eucalypt leaf is so low in nutrients/energy value.
