EAN states that "each variant of a product (e.g. colour, style, size, etc.) should be assigned a separate, unique 13-digit GS1 number". The GS1 system is based on the non-significance of the numbers. In addition, it is recommended to allocate the numbers serially, in a non-significant way. The colour or size are descriptive information which are attributes of the GS1 identification number in databases.

For a closed system (where you control the scanning environment), this is entirely up to you. You will simply use whatever size you need it to be for your scanning equipment. More about bar code scanning. If you are trying to comply with an industry specification, an application specification will define the size that is needed in order to be in compliance.

A bar code on a wristband can easily hold 10 to 12 characters using code 128 (a widely used linear bar code symbology). More information can be stored on a 2 dimensional matrix bar code symbology. Radio frequency identification (RFID) wristbands can hold up to 256 characters in the band's IC memory chip. This is a scannable code that allows data on your return to be "read" using high-speed optical imaging processors. As the data is read, it enters Taxation's automated processing system.

There is a web site at which you can enter your PTAO information and the system will validate it and print out a PTAO card with the bar code and the numbers on it. Some service providers (such as Mail Services) have the ability to scan the bar code for input into their billing systems. BarCode is an automatic identification technology. It allows data to be collected accurately and rapidly. A BarCode symbol consists of a series of parallel, adjacent bars and spaces. Predetermined width patterns are used to code actual data into the symbol. To read information contained in a BarCode symbol, a scanning device, such as a light pen (or wand), is moved across the symbol from one side to the other.

The MediaPortal source code is about 160MB. However, SVN uses compression so only 66MB need to be downloaded, if you download the needed main trunk only. All other branches should not be downloaded.
