Frequently Asked Questions

MRI - What part of the body does the MRI scanner focus on?

Rockland Diagnostic Imaging - Frequently Asked Questions
The MRI scanner examines one area of the body at a time. The MRI scanner can take pictures of the head, neck, back, abdomen, pelvis, shoulder, elbow, knee, ankle, foot, blood vessels and more. MRI is predominantly excellent at distinguishing soft tissues such as imaging the brain, spinal cord and joint structures.

CT - What part of the body does the CT scanner focus on?

Rockland Diagnostic Imaging - Frequently Asked Questions
CT is used to view many areas of the body, including the head, sinus cavity, chest, abdomen, urinary tract, liver, pancreas, gallbladder and renal arteries. CT scans are well known for imaging fine, detailed bony anatomy.

What does the MRI scanner look like?

AtlantiCare Imaging Services -- Frequently Asked Questions
It’s a large, wide tube that’s open at both ends and is both bright and well-ventilated. It’s also equipped with a two-way intercom so you can communicate with the technician throughout the procedure.

Why does the MRI scanner make so much noise?

Radiology - Magnetic Resonance Imaging ( MRI) - FREQUENTLY A...
The tapping and knocking noise you hear during your scan is caused by magnetic coils that switch on and off during the scan. These coils measure the signal coming from your body in order to make the images that are used for your diagnosis. Because these coils are switched on and off rapidly, they vibrate and cause the noise you hear. Since these noises are often very loud, the technologist will give you some type of hearing protection.

What body parts can the MRI scanner evaluate?

FAQ - TruSCAN MRI Stand-Up "High Field" OPEN MRI, ...
Physicians use the MRI exam to evaluate one part of the body at a time. The MRI can take images of the head and brain, neck, back, abdomen, pelvis, shoulder, knee, ankle foot, blood vessels (MRA) and more.

Does the MRI scanner have to be 1.5T to perform FerriScan? Wouldn't a 3T scanner be better?

Resonance Health: Frequently Asked Questions
Currently the scanner MUST have a 1.5T magnet. The FerriScan technology has not yet been extended to scanners with other field strengths.

Why does my whole body have to be in the scanner if you are only scanning my head?

MRI IRM PLUS Ottawa - Gatineau
The part of the scanner that takes the pictures is located in the center of the scanner. Therefore, in order to do a scan of your head, most of your body must slide into the scanner for proper positioning. The same is true for other studies of the spine and upper extremities.

What is an MRI scanner and why is an MRI scan necessary to measure liver iron concentration?

Resonance Health: Frequently Asked Questions
MRI scanner is a specialised piece of medical imaging equipment that takes images of the internal structure of the human body. The MRI scanner will make cross-sectional images or 'slices' of the body and allow detailed pictures of the liver to be taken for the FerriScan Analysis.

Can I have a scanner or MRI performed at the FIHS ?

FAQ surgery
Both the Institute, and the Victor Hugo Clinic, cannot make either a scanner or MRI. However, Dr Isabelle PIGEAU, radiologist who belongs to our team, can have a MRI Scanner or an artro-scanner made for you as soon as possible.

Will I be placed all the way into the MRI scanner?

Radiology - Magnetic Resonance Imaging ( MRI) - FREQUENTLY A...
You will not be placed all the way into the scanner. However, depending upon the area being scanned, you will enter either head first or feet first. For example, feet, ankle, knee or leg MRI scans require you to go in feet first. All other scans, such as head, spine, shoulders, or torso require you to go head first.

How does MRI work?

FAQ's
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) generates cross-sectional images of the human body by using Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR). The process begins with the positioning of the imaged body in a strong, uniform magnetic field, which polarizes the nuclear magnetic moments of water protons by forcing their spins into one of two possible orientations . Then an appropriately polarized radio-frequency field, applied at resonant frequency, forces spin transitions between orientations .

Should I be concerned with using an MRI and its effect with Tantalum cement in the body?

FAQs
No. Tantalum has been proved safe as an implant for years and is non-paramagnetic which means it does not react to magnets. You can request the white paper on this by emailing us at info@parallax-medical.com.

Does GIMP have scanner support?

GIMP - Documentation
Yes. You can run xscanimage, the front end to SANE (Scanner Access Now Easy), either as a GIMP extension or in stand-alone mode. This supports Mustek and HP flatbed scanners, as well as the Connectix color QuickCam camera.

Why does calling Focus() on a control not set focus on it?

General - Windows Forms FAQs
When you call the Focus method on a control, the control must be visible; otherwise focus will not be set. For example, if you call Focus on a control in Form_Load then focus will not be set. Instead consider setting the control's TabIndex property...

Who cannot have an MRI?

FAQ's
If you have a pacemaker, you should not be imaged because the pacemaker may be damaged in the magnetic field of the scanner. If you have metal filings, shrapnel, or ferromagnetic clips or pins in your body, you probably will not be imaged because these objects could be twisted by the magnetic field and cause serious injuries. Most new surgical metal implants are made of a high quality stainless steel which is non-magnetic. You can be imaged with these. Dental fillings and bridgework are okay.

Can I have an MRI if I have metal in or on my body?

Southwest Diagnostic: San Antonio Open MRI, Radiology, CT Sc...
There are a few instances when MRI cannot be attempted on patients with metal in their bodies. Patients with pacemakers or other implanted electronic devices cannot be examined. Your technologist will carefully assess your situation and prepare you for your procedure. You can help by not wearing clothing containing metal.

Can MRI examine my whole body at once?

Southwest Diagnostic: San Antonio Open MRI, Radiology, CT Sc...
No. The quality of the images produced increases as the area of examination becomes smaller. Because of limitations on signal to noise, the number of image pixels is finite, and they become too large for accurate diagnosis if the field of view is too large.
