The Luteal Phase is the time period beginning with the day after ovulation and running through the remainder of your menstrual cycle (ending the day before your next period). Typically, the duration of the luteal phase phase lasts between 10 and 16 days and is generally consistent from cycle to cycle, averaging for most women at about 14 days. In the Trying to Conceive (TTC) Community, the luteal phase is also referred to as "DPO" - or days past ovulation.

A short luteal phase (second half of cycle) of seven days or less is actually fairly common in breastfeeding moms. This will correct itself over time, as your baby grows older.

The phase 1 study is used to learn the "maximum tolerated dose" of a drug that does not produce unacceptable side effects. Patient volunteers are followed primarily for side effects, and not for how the drug affects their disease. Two-phase treatment simply means that the treatment is carried out in two stages. The first is the interceptive orthodontic phase (see above) and the second is the comprehensive orthodontic phase (see above). This growth/observation period will involve a combination of retaining the correction that has been made in Phase One and guiding the growth of the permanent teeth into more favorable positions. Because treatment timing is critical, a child's growth and development is monitored very carefully during this period.
