Floors over unheated crawlspaces or basements should be insulated to R-19, while floors over open air (such as overhangs) should be insulated to R-30 if possible. If your home has a basement containing your heating system or other sources of heat, you should insulate the basement walls to R-11, rather than insulating the floor above.

It is essential that floors which are ground bearing or suspended over an un-heated space with or without underfloor heating are properly insulated to meet the U-values requirements as stated in the Building Regulations Part L1/L2 2002. The value is currently set at 0.25 W/m 2K. The thickness of insulation required to achieve this will vary according to the type of floor, size of floor and type of insulation selected.

The Ontario Building Code only requires basement insulation to be installed from the underside of the subfloor to not less than 60 cm (24 inches) below the adjacent exterior ground level.

For cement sub-floors Fastwarm® boards will readily bond to any good quality fast setting, water based (solvent-free) floor tile adhesive. For wood floors care must be taken to ensure that the floor is firmly fixed to the joists, following the recommended 300 mm screwed centres as a guide, prior to applying the flexible floor tile adhesive and bonding the Fastwarm boards.

This depends on a number of factors like the sub-floor type and insulation: a cement sub-floor will be slow to warm without a thermal barrier, creating a significant drag on the performance of the floor. A layer of high quality insulation will have a dramatic effect in these circumstances, speeding up the initial warm up times to within 15-20 minutes.

Traditional use of plywood is a well-proven method but it is difficult to cut around complicated bathroom objects, is heavy and relatively expensive; it will require fixing to the sub-floor and primed prior to the use of tile adhesive. Fastwarm® insulation boards will achieve the same result being easy to cut with a sharp knife, available in more manageable sizes, very light weight, completely water and rot resistant, requiring no special priming to apply floor tile adhesive and low cost.

A reflective insulation reduces radiant heat transfer across air spaces by use of one or more high reflective/low emittance surfaces (Reflectivity of 90% or higher - Emissivity of 10% or less). This rate of heat transfer can be quantified in an R-value (for a specific application).

The exterior walls will yield a value of R-21 consisting of R-19 bats, exterior sheeting, siding, drywall and house wrap. The ceilings have blown insulation rating R-41. The basement will have an R-11 insulation. We also install a basic soundproofing package. Top

The pelvic floor is a "sling" of muscles which support the abdominal organs, including the uterus, urinary bladder the urethra, and the rectum. It normally tightens to help control the release of urine from the bladder, but can become weakened through childbirth or obesity, or become thinner through lowering of estrogen levels after menopause. This weakening is often associated with stress incontinence.

In the same way fiberglass or other mass insulations provide benefit, reflective insulation reduces conductive heat transfer. When a highly-reflective/low emittance material (such as aluminum foil) is installed in a building assemblage, in conjunction with an air space, (foil side of product) it provides a quantifiable R-value level of benefit.

You must not compromise structural integrity for insulation. Insulation has very little weight bearing strength. A topping slab over extruded polystyrene is satisfactory only for light residential loads. If you cannot insulate underneath the slab, then you should insulate well at the perimeter where most heat loss occurs. An uninsulated slab may not be as responsive as one with insulation, but the overall heat loss could be acceptable.

From the Reflectix web site: "Reflectix® is a 5/16" thick, seven layer, reflective insulation which is available in rolls of various widths and lengths. Two outer layers of aluminum foil reflect 97% of radiant heat" It is used by the owners of some pop-up campers on the top (exterior) of the bed ends to reflect light and heat to keep the pop-up cooler during summer use.

The lumber sizes specified in the structure can accommodate R-19 to R-30 fiberglass batt insulation in the roof and floor, with R-11 to R-19 in the walls, where R-30 and R-19 are recommended for colder climates, respectively. However, if your area requires higher factors, you can easily substitute wider sized lumber to suit.

Yes! Your feet get cold too even if you don’t notice it. Often your body will rob heat from the core to warm your extremities so keeping your hands and feet warm will make you feel warmer overall. In addition, the socks or boots installed on your drysuit were sized so you can wear thick insulation on your feet. If you do not wear insulation, the feet of your suit may seem too big. Layering is great alternative to buying a new base undergarment.
