The librarians can request magazine articles from other libraries through Interlibrary Loan. You can submit 3 requests at a time. Member libraries of Library Management Network do not usually charge for sending copies of magazine articles. Magazine articles from other libraries may have an additional cost. The librarian will ask your permission before requesting these materials, or you can indicate an amount that you are willing to pay on the request form.

The Reference Center in Meadows Library is connected to the Reading Room by a hallway. If you have problems locating the Reference Center, ask someone at the Circulation Desk for directions.

You may request an interlibrary loan, which means Shorter will try to borrow the item from another library. You should allow two weeks to receive an interlibrary loan, and should specify on the interlibrary loan form how much you would be willing to pay if we are unable to find your item at a library which doesn't charge (most book loans are free but many libraries charge for copies). If you are a student in good standing, you may use the Inter Library Loan (ILL) service. Obtain the form from the librarian at the Reference Desk and complete the specific information about the item you need. Once the form is submitted, the library staff member will look for item at member libraries. If the material is located, you will be contacted as to when the material is available for pick at the library.

Currently Meadows Library has a reader/printer which will photocopy either microfiche or microfilm. Directions on use of the machine is located next to it, or you may ask staff members for help. The printer will only accept dimes which you may obtain at the Circulation Desk.

If the magazine or journal is not listed in our Periodical Holdings List, then use our VCCS Online Journal Search or VIVA Online Journal Locator to see which database has your article full-text. If neither of those places lists your magazine or journal, you may request the article through interlibrary loan. There is no charge for this service. There are forms at the Circulation Desk that you need to fill out so we know the title, author, date and page numbers of your article.

You may use the Eskind Library Document Delivery Service (DDS) to request a copy of any article you need. Simply request an article through the online order form which explains the procedure for ordering, the price, and the options for delivery. There is also contact information for DDS staff if you have questions regarding this service.

wonderful a library as we have at Emerson, we can't always find everything we need. We understand that, which is why it is easy to get books and articles from other libraries. Follow the helpful step-by-step instructions on our website to point you to the right place to order the item. Our Interlibrary Loan Department will make every effort to get the book or article for you. Don't hesitate to ask a librarian if you need help finding something.

It's (we hope) relatively rare that we don't have something and it is even rarer that we can't get it from somewhere else, so if you can't find what you want, please ask. We'll do our best to get whatever you require for your functional or scientific work (but not for your kid's homework!).

The Scientific Library sends out documents requiring translations to a company that provides such services. The translators require either an original document or a good copy. Costs will be charged back to the requestor’s center number.

We have a database called TDnet that has a list of all our journal titles that are in print and full-text in databases. It will tell you what years we own and if it's full-text online, which database has it.

Citations may be done in several ways: the major printed source is A&A Abstracts (Z 5153.A862) shelved in the Reference section. A&A Abstracts is also available online via ARIBIB. The primary online source is the Astrophysics Data System. Other electronic sources are available from the published papers link.

Backstreets is also available at a number of newsstands and record stores around the nation and even overseas. Though as a small magazine, it can be difficult to find.
