Is your wireless service similar to satellite-based Internet services?

Sierra Advantage Wireless Broadband -- 1-877-EDC-WISP / FAQ'...
Not even close. Compared to satellite Internet, fixed wireless is much faster and more reliable due to its inherent design. Because of the great distances to geosynchronous Earth satellites, data communications through them suffers from a condition termed "latency" (delay) which results in poor web browsing performance. In contrast, our terrestrial (land-based) fixed wireless network communicates through distances of only a few miles over roof-top based repeater sites in a local region.

Are your wireless services the same as satellite-based Internet services?

Brevard Wireless
No. Fixed wireless is much faster and more reliable due to its design. Our terrestrial (land-based) fixed wireless network is made up of access points located on building roof tops and towers across the county. Our subscribers must be within a 20 mile radius from one of these access points and line of site is preferred although not necessary.

Is Wireless Internet the same as satellite internet service?

menu1
No. We use ground based antennas to send information to/from the internet. Satellite systems often require a phone line and modem connection. They are also rather expensive, satellite space doesn't come cheap. And although the information travels fairly quickly, there is a significant delay in sending and receiving information because of the distance it must travel (satellites are around 23,500 miles up).

Are satellite Internet Services and Wireless Internet the same thing?

Frequently Asked Questions
No. Although both services deliver their signal through the air, satellite Internet suffers from high latency which is the delay caused while signals travel to an orbiting satellite thousands of miles away and then down to a terrestrial base station and back again. Springville Wireless transmits its signals from a neighborhood hilltop with a delay that is practically indistinguishable from a wired Internet connection.

Is wireless Internet the same as satellite Internet?

Solano Wireless High-Speed Internet Access ~ Frequently Aske...
Nope. Although both technologies use a roof-mounted antenna to connect you to the Internet, the delivery of the signal is very different and more stable than satellite Internet.

Is Wireless the same as "satellite" Internet?

FAQ
NO! Wireless uses ground-based antennas to transmit data to your location. And while satellite systems usually require you to use a regular phone line and modem to send data, wireless systems are 2-way transmissions. Also, satellite systems have higher "latency" (the time it takes data to travel between 2 points) since the data has to travel from your location up to the satellite 4 miles up and back down to the Internet, see www.speedguide.net/editorials/satellite.shtml for more information.

How does the speed of wireless Internet compare to my current dialup Internet or satellite service?

Solano Wireless High-Speed Internet Access ~ Frequently Aske...
Internet "speed" is measured in units of kilobits per second (kbps). By comparison, if you currently have a 56K dialup modem and typically get around 28 kbps download speeds, compare that speed to up to 3,000 kbps or 5,000 kbps (depending on plan) with our Internet service! If you have a hard time envisioning kbps, substitute "mph" and you'll get the idea! The speed of your connection depends on which plan you select and the distance you are from our transmitter(s).

Is Tusco.Net's high speed wireless service effected by weather like Satellite Internet?

Tusco.Net, Inc.
No, unlike satellite Internet, our towers are much closer to you with a line of sight. Plus, the signal does not have to pass through the atmosphere where it could cause a loss of signal.

How does high speed Wireless Internet compare to dialup, satellite, DSL, or cable Internet service?

Frequently Asked Questions
Springville Wireless offers speeds up to 30 times faster than those available with standard dialup. Headaches common to dialup internet such as unbearably slow downloads or disconnected calls are a thing of the past. While also providing a signal through the air, satellite Internet service offers speeds far slower those available with Springville Wireless. See the question below for more details. DSL or cable services feature uploads significantly slower than their download speeds.

Can I redistribute Wireless Internet service to others?

SECNet - South East Communication Network - Wireless F.A.Q.
Yes and no. The obvious applications here are apartment complexes, hotels and motels, business parks, or even shopping malls. How does wireless Internet compare to dialup or satellite Internet?

Solano Wireless High-Speed Internet Access ~ Frequently Aske...
Nope. Heat, cold, rain, snow, etc. does not affect your wireless Internet connection. Environmental factors that can affect wireless Internet include strong solar flare-ups (the same that affect FM radio and cell phone signals).

Do you have a satellite Internet Service Provider?

ETUDES-NG FAQ
Two examples are Direcway and Hughes. Satellite providers will often serve cached content to the user. This presents a problem because instead of getting “live” versions of Webpages, you’ll see older ones that have been stored in the satellite server’s memory for quick access. This will not work with a system like ETUDES-NG where you need to access live content. We recommend accessing your course from a computer with a non-satellite connection (Dial-up, DSL or Cable Modem).

How does wireless broadband compare to Satellite?

Phoenix Internet Wireless Faq's - Wireless FAQs
Wireless broadband is sometimes confused with Satellite because they are both forms of wireless communication. The difference is that Phoenix Internet uses a terrestrial microwave system that uses short-range wireless links that are no more than 14 miles long. The latency on these short-range links is comparable to wired links like DSL and Cable Modem so the performance remains high.

How is ZIRKEL Wireless' service different from satellite service?

ZIRKEL Wireless: Steamboat Springs Internet Service Access P...
While both services are wireless, our network is local to Steamboat Springs. Our radio signals typically travel less than 2 miles to our facilities, while satellite system signals have to travel through the atmosphere, over 22,000 miles to the satellite and then 22,000 miles back to earth. That's why satellite system users commonly experience latency or delays when connecting to the web.
