Alaska's summer is brief, with the peak visitor season lasting only eight weeks, from mid-June to mid-August. June tends to be dry, but in the north and a high elevations the snow doesn't melt until late in the month. Night time temperatures can be cool. August is the wettest of the summer months, although warmer than June. July is the driest and warmest month of the summer, but also the time when you'll find the highest prices and the biggest crowds.

Every summer month has something special to recommend it: late May and early June may still have snow on the ground and fewer leaves on the trees. More common view is that mid July - mid August is the best. It was so before (6-10 years ago), but now - I do not know. Last two seasons August was pretty rainy. I think June, July, August, September are about equal nowadays. It may be rainy in August and perfect weather in September. As for surface conditions I prefer June. Rocky Mountain weather can change very quickly. From sunburn to snow storms, the CT user can hit them all. Lightning is a real danger at higher elevations. Horseback riders should remember to get off and away from their shod horses when lightning is near. Hypothermia is a danger even in summer. In my experience, patients' acne usually improves during exposure to dry summer weather, but flares during very humid summer conditions. Avoidance of unnecessary sun exposure is usually a good idea for all individuals. Application of a light ( non-occlusive, not heavy or thick) sunscreen with a UVB SPF between 35 and 15, and a good UVA protector (such as Zinc or Titanium); is usually advantageous during periods of sunburn risk.
