Isotonic solutions cause no swelling or contraction of the tissues with which they come in contact, and produce no discomfort when instilled in the eye, nasal tract, or other body tissues.

When memory foam is manufactured it develops a thin skin on its exterior. This skin is denser than the foam itself and doesn't breathe well. It can be most closely compared to the skin that develops on the top of chocolate pudding when it cools in the refrigerator.
