In the "Display Properties" window, make sure your "Screen Area" is at least 800x600 (1024x768 or greater is preferable - adjust by using the slider) and your "Colors" setting is at least 256 (preferably "High Color" or "True Color"). Click on the Apple menu in the upper left-hand corner of the screen and select Control Panels > Monitors or Control Panels > Monitors & Sound

You should have your display resolution set to a minimum 800 x 600 pixels and the highest number of screen color to properly use the Costco Picture CD. The software application will not run properly if the monitor resolution is set to 640 x 480.

The best way to change the default color depth of the X server is to add a "DefaultColorDepth" line to the "Screen" section that corresponds to the X server you use. Here is one example: To change the color depth on a per-invocation basis with startx, send the appropriate command line argument to the X server: With xdm, the /etc/X11/xdm/Xservers file must be edited; there is not a way to change the color depth on a per-session basis.

Color depth is the number of shades (variations) of colors that can be obtained from an image. The more shades of color the scanner captures, the truer to the original any reproduction of the scanned image appears. When you scan an image, the pixel data (color depth) for each pixel is 24-bit (16 million color variations, 8-bit/color) for color, or 8-bit (256 shades) for grayscale images (black-and-white photos).

Color images at times can have a dull appearance where it seems that the color seems faded. To adjust the color and bring out a pure image it may be necessary to adjust the Hue/Saturation of the page. To do this go to IMAGE→Adjust→Hue/Saturation... This will bring up the window seen above where you may adjust the hue and satuaration of the page.

Windows: to adjust monitor resolution, right mouse click on the PC desktop. Select “Properties”, choose “Settings” and slide the scale as required. Mac: using the main menu go to “Control Panel”. Select “Monitors” and choose an appropriate setting from the list. If 1024 x 768 is not available then select the highest setting.

first minimize all programs so you can see the PC desktop. The easiest way to do this is to press the Windows Key on your keyboard and hold it down while pressing the D key. Next, Right-click anywhere on an empty area of the desktop. Now select the Properties option from the menu that pops up. Next click the Settings folder. You will see a slider bar labeled Screen Resolution. If the setting is higher than 1024x768 then do not change a thing. Your resolution is fine.

Keep in mind that as resolution is increased, everything is made proportionately smaller so you can see more of your work on the screen at one time without scrolling. This gives the effect of higher resolution because the individual pixels that make up the images are smaller to the eye.

I'm using the CRT with the LCD DISCONNECTED, and I have set my CRT to be 1600x1200. I powered off the system and reconnected the LCD, and it came up at 640x480. This is normal. If your set your CRT resolution above 1024x768 and then reconnect the LCD, the system will default to the lowest resolution (640x480).

f you get to the login screen and the monitor flashes or says 'Out of Range' then you need to adjust the monitor's configuration. To accomplish this, restart the computer and at the graphical prompt hit 'a'. At the next prompt, add a space and type '3' then press enter. This will bring you into init level 3 without graphics. Next, run 'system-config-xfree86 --reconfig' to manually to set up your monitor.

B. 17” & 19" LCD monitors have an optimal resolution of 1280x1024 with 75Hz refresh rate. When the optimal settings are used in conjunction with the monitor, the image is visually appealing.

Among color's other properties, it can affect perception of 3D space. Mountains off in the distance usually appear blue-violet and indistinct. This effect, "aerial perspective," is a secondary consequence of short wavelength light's greater refractive index - it bends more. When white sunlight hits the atmosphere, the short wavelengths refract more, scattering into a bluey haze - hence a blue sky.
