Will my granite countertop have visible seams?

GRANITE COUNTERTOPS - FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Most granite installations will require at least one or more joints called seams. During layout and design, we will try to minimize the number of seams required. Additionally, our care in manufacture ensures that edges fit together very tightly to help lessen the appearance of visible seams.

I don’t want any seams in my granite countertop. Is that possible?

Heritage Stone - natural stone products
Seams are dictated by three factors. First, the size of the slab of stone. Second, by the configuration of the piece to be fabricated. And lastly, by the constraints of the site. The finished piece must be able to be maneuvered into the space that it is going. Heritage Stone prides ourselves on cutting the largest piece possible and minimizing the seams. However, be aware that a seam is not a grout line. We strive for a 1/16 seam.

Why do I have to have seams in my countertop and what do they look like?

Frequently Asked Questions
Slab size may not be large enough for the entire run of a countertop. The weight of the material may dictate that seams are inserted so that the structural integrity of the material is not jeopardized. The cabinet structure, placement of cooktops, or other cutouts may require seams. Access to the job or layout of the countertops may be limited and/or difficult to work with. The type of material may require seams to maintain the structural integrity of the material.

Question16: Do granite seams show?

FAQ's
Because granite is a natural material and is mined from the quarry in blocks usually no more than 9' to10' in length, you will end up with seams. Also, because granite is sold in rectangular pieces, you may want to use seams to reduce your costs, such as in an 'L' shaped corner. The visibility of seams will depend on the granularity, color and pattern. A small, uniform grain will not be as apparent as a larger varied grain. A dark color will be less apparent than a light color.
