Both, depending on the budget and preference of the owner. For years we have built with both dry and green logs. In those years, green logs offered us close to, but not quite absolute perfection. Dry logs were better than green at that time. Over the years, we have tweaked our green log fitting systems, until we were able to offer a construction system that offers tight wood on wood joinery, after drying and settling is completed, using green logs.

You can build with "green" logs as long as you allow enough settling over windows and doors. We do have an inventory of dry logs also.

We use dead standing trees for our house logs. These trees have done most of their drying, checking and twisting by the time we have them sawn into cants. Some further checking may occur as the log cants lose any ambient moisture still present in the logs. Checks are basically harmless to your logs and are a natural process that occurs as large timbers season.

No, this can blow the filter material right out of the wire mesh and ruin the filter. Pick a nice day to clean the filter and let it dry naturally. A low pressure air flow such as from an industrial drying machine or blow dryer will help the filter dry more quickly.

If the paint dries in the sponge tip, it can clog and become hard to use. It is best to wash out the sponge tip with warm water after each use.

Absolutely. Trend logs are important to work out detailed problems that require a fine level of time granularity before you can make final decisions.

Lodgepole Pine and Englemann Spruce are the most common. Our logs are dry seasoned logs, which means they have been air-dried to a moisture content of less than 19%, before they are crafted into your log home. This results in very tight fitting log joints that stay that way. Our logs are handpeeled with a draw knife to retain the protective insulating layer just under the bark, and to preserve the natural color, taper and character of each log.

Our logs are air dried in our construction yard to average moisture content of between 15% and 20% before we begin building. There are many log homeowners but only a few can claim to live in a real handcrafted work of art. One of our experienced log smiths using the highest quality full log uniquely creates each of our homes. Unlike machined log homes, you would never find a butt joint in our log walls. Each log is allowed to retain its character.

Chimney cleaning logs are not a substitute for a professional chimney sweeping, but they do do some good. It's a bit like running weakly soapy water over your hands but not scrubbing.

There are many types of synthetic (manufactured) logs on the market. You need to carefully read the instructions on the packaging. Those instructions should clearly mention whether the logs are approved for use in a fireplace (freestanding stove, zero clearance fireplace, or fireplace insert). If there is no restriction mentioned on the packaging, try to contact the log manufacturer. Some types of synthetic logs are forbidden for use in freestanding stoves.
