If you choose not to use VPN from off-campus and still want to send email through your own broadband provider, you will need to configure your mail client settings as described in the document Configuring Eudora Email When Off-campus. Suggested settings for Verizon and Comcast Cable broadband customers are included in that document.

The Internet Service Provider (ISP) that you are using at the time of the connection may be blocking specific types of TCP/IP traffic that are preventing VPN connectivity. Contact your ISP for further assistance.

With an out of the box configuration, you cannot query SNMP on the LAN interface of a remote m0n0wall over a VPN connection. Fred Wright explained in a post to the mailing list on September 12, 2004 why this is. Due to the way IPsec tunnels are kludged into the FreeBSD kernel, any traffic *initiated* by m0n0wall to go through an IPsec tunnel gets the wrong source IP (and typically doesn't go through the tunnel at all as a result).

When logs look like the ones below, the IPSec VPN tunnel is established. Now you should be able to ping any devices onto your VPN server LAN. TheGreenBow IPSec VPN Client configuration is correct. Check Phase 2 settings : VPN client address and Remote LAN address. Usually, client IP address should not belong to the remote LAN subnet (read also What must be filled in Phase 2 field "VPN client address" ?) Once tunnel is up, packets are sent with ESP protocol.

The VPN client is a "shim" client. It inserts itself below your computer's native TCP/IP stack and intercepts all network traffic received or transmitted, encrypting and authenticating the data on the fly.

VPN stands for Virtual Private Network. It is a set of technologies that allow you to build secure "virtual" paths between hosts on insecure networks. The particular type of VPN Network Services is deploying is commonly known as a remote access or tunnel mode VPN. This acts very much like a classical dialup service, except you are using a data network rather than a voice network to make your "calls".

Home networks can be setup in a number of different ways and usually use NAT to share a single IP address with the rest of the network. Since there are so many different ways to run a home network we can't provide support to users on this issue. There are a few ways you can connect to the VPN but they may not all be possible depending on your ISP and the type of NAT router you use. These same options also work with wireless networks.

If you can't successfully download or use the Globalchat plug, we recommend that you select "Java Lite" or "HTML" as your chat client when logging in to the chat server.
