What is the benefit of fitting a thermostatic radiator valve to the radiator?
PURMO | People | Service and support | FAQThe fitting of a thermostatic radiator valve (TRV) to a radiator gives room temperature comfort control and can help to avoid overheating if a radiator is too large for the room. This piece of equipment provides an extra fine tuning control to central heating, by allowing individual room temperatures to be maintained by sensing room temperature and automatically adjusting the flow of hot water into the radiator. What is a thermostatic radiator valve?
FAQs - About our Designer radiators and towel warmersA thermostatic radiator valve (TRV) is shown in the image to the right. You will find it on the pipework at the top or bottom of your radiator. It gives you greater control over the heat from each individual radiator. Each TRV can be set to a temperature to suit you, so you can have different temperatures in different rooms. What is the difference between a TRV (Thermostatic Radiator Valve) and a manual one?
FAQs & Helpful Information ContentThe TRV controls the radiators temperature by sensing the room air temperature and automatically opening and closing the flow to the radiator to maintain a preset temperature. A manual valve controls the temperature of the radiator regardless of how warm the room already is. On large radiators (above 1800 watts, or where the radiator is oversized for the room) we recommend TRV because they save you having to get up to turn the radiator up and down, but they are not essential. I have a thermostatic valve. What should I do?
Radiator cabinets by Coverscreen UKAlthough the vast majority of our customers enclose it, the thermostatic valves should ideally remain outside of the radiator cover if they are to sense the temperature of the room correctly. If you would like to keep the thermostatic valve outside of the radiator cover, the side of the cover that the valve is on will need to fit between the radiator and the valve. When fitting, a small cut will need to be made in the cover to receive the pipe between the radiator and the valve. See similar questions...
How should I set my thermostatic radiator valves?
FAQs - About our Designer radiators and towel warmersIt's best to set your TRV to a middle setting and see if the room is warm enough. If the room is too warm, turn the TRV down by 1, if the room is too cold, turn the TRV up by 1. A middle setting corresponds to approximately 20ºC (68F). Do NOT turn the TRV fully ON or fully OFF to make the room you are in warmer or cooler - this will waste fuel. Turn it a little way and let it do the work. See similar questions...
What is a thermostatic mixing valve?
HRH FAQ'sA TMV is used to control the temperature of the hot water supply to the manifold. It is necessary when the design temperature is significantly lower than the supply water temperature from the heat source. The TMV installs in the plumbing supply and return lines between the manifold and the heat source. It blends return loop water from the manifold and supply water from the heat source to a manually set temperature. See similar questions...
Q Is the Allegra Valve thermostatic?
Frequently Asked QuestionsA No its a manual valve but the 'Traditional' valve found on our valve page, is thermostatic and comes in a range of brass, chrome, and nickel. We are currently manufacturing a further range of traditional style thermostatic valves, and will be adding these to our range in September 07. See similar questions...
Q - How often should a thermostatic mixing valve be serviced?
Plumbing Products, Plumbing Supplies, Heating, Showers, Valv...A - The amount of time between servicing will vary dramatically depending on site and water quality conditions. To conform with the DO8 specification the valves should be checked against the original performance at 6 weeks, 12 weeks and 6 months, if the performance has not significantly altered at this time then a biennial testing regime can be started. The valves only need to be serviced if the tests show a deterioration in the performance of the valve. See similar questions...
Q -How do I service a thermostatic mixing valve?
Plumbing Products, Plumbing Supplies, Heating, Showers, Valv...A - All of the thermostatic mixing valves in the Reliance range are provided with flat faced union type connections. This means that the "body" of the valve can be removed from the installation very easily without disturbing the compression joints on the inlet and outlet adapters. All parts of the valve can now be accessed for servicing. See similar questions...
Can I fit Thermostatic Radiator Valves (TRV) on all radiators in the house?
Plumbing FAQNew houses may have this, because of new housing regulations. However, existing older systems will not usually have an AUTOMATIC BYPASS (PRESSURE BALANCING) VALVE, or ABV fitted to the system. These are required to cater for the possibility that the majority of radiators are closed off due to low TRV settings, but high room thermostat settings keeping the boiler cycling. Since the circulating pump would still be running, the pressure in the system would increase. See similar questions...
Q:How do I stop a leaking radiator valve dripping?
Plumbing FAQA:I am assuming here, that the radiator has already been removed, and that the leak is from the horizontal part of the valve, not the valve stem. The stem, that the shut-off knob pushes on to, tends to have a few drips come out of the top, as the internal washer moves from the top to the bottom of the valve seat. This is usually nothing to worry about, and it is NOT what we are talking about below. See similar questions...

Is there any kind of over-fitting risk on this system?
GFX-Trading.com - Mechanical Trading Systems & Forex Signals...No. There is no kind of over-optimized or over-fitting risk on the system. These over-fitting problems occur when some trading system developers search the best values in many variables in a past historical data, in order to have the best results possible on a trading system and present them thinking the system would continue this way in the future. There can't be anything more wrong than that. See similar questions...

Can I use radiant tubing in place of a radiator?
Radiantec : FAQ Frequently Asked Questions, Radiant Heat, Sy...Ordinarily the radiant tubing must run at a lower temperature than the baseboard. This means that a mixing valve is used to provide a lower temperature for the radiant heating tube. It might be possible to avoid the expense of the mixing valve if the baseboard can be run at a lower temperature and if you select a radiant tubing with a high temperature rating, but the situation will not be ideal. Why move the MCI radiator?
Untitled DocumentBack in the 50s, MCI installed radiators in the back of the cabin structure above the floor. This idea was to prevent an ongoing problem of leaves, dirt, and debris being sucked in the low slung radiator. Over the years, all manufacturers install their radiators next to the engine on the left side. The main reason is roads are far superior to what they were 50 years ago and there is not as much debris on the highways. See similar questions...
How Do You Check Out A Radiator?
FAQ : The Pressurized Cooling SystemVisual inspection at periodic intervals (most easily performed while checking the oil level) is always a good money saving idea. A great deal about the condition of the ENTIRE cooling system can be quickly learned by checking both the INSIDE and OUTSIDE of the radiator! Inspect the radiator for coolant seepage or stains around soldered seams of the sides, top and bottom of the radiator. Remove bugs and debris from the finned core area while checking for coolant leaks. See similar questions...
What is a solenoid valve and can I hook one up to a Sterilight system?
Frequently Asked QuestionsA solenoid valve is an electrically-activated mechanical valve that opens and closes when power is applied to it. This kind of valve can be installed and wired into a Sterilight system which is monitored. If the UV intensity were to drop below the recommended level the solenoid would then be activated and automatically shut down the flow of water. This will keep contaminated water from getting through the UV system. See similar questions...
