Although the vast majority of our customers enclose it, the thermostatic valves should ideally remain outside of the radiator cover if they are to sense the temperature of the room correctly. If you would like to keep the thermostatic valve outside of the radiator cover, the side of the cover that the valve is on will need to fit between the radiator and the valve. It's best to set your TRV to a middle setting and see if the room is warm enough. If the room is too warm, turn the TRV down by 1, if the room is too cold, turn the TRV up by 1. A middle setting corresponds to approximately 20ºC (68F). Do NOT turn the TRV fully ON or fully OFF to make the room you are in warmer or cooler - this will waste fuel. A TMV is used to control the temperature of the hot water supply to the manifold. It is necessary when the design temperature is significantly lower than the supply water temperature from the heat source. The TMV installs in the plumbing supply and return lines between the manifold and the heat source. A - The amount of time between servicing will vary dramatically depending on site and water quality conditions. To conform with the DO8 specification the valves should be checked against the original performance at 6 weeks, 12 weeks and 6 months, if the performance has not significantly altered at this time then a biennial testing regime can be started. However, existing older systems will not usually have an AUTOMATIC BYPASS (PRESSURE BALANCING) VALVE, or ABV fitted to the system.These are required to cater for the possibility that the majority of radiators are closed off due to low TRV settings, but high room thermostat settings keeping the boiler cycling. A:I am assuming here, that the radiator has already been removed, and that the leak is from the horizontal part of the valve, not the valve stem. The stem, that the shut-off knob pushes on to, tends to have a few drips come out of the top, as the internal washer moves from the top to the bottom of the valve seat. Ordinarily the radiant tubing must run at a lower temperature than the baseboard. This means that a mixing valve is used to provide a lower temperature for the radiant heating tube. It might be possible to avoid the expense of the mixing valve if the baseboard can be run at a lower temperature and if you select a radiant tubing with a high temperature rating, but the situation will not be ideal. Back in the 50s, MCI installed radiators in the back of the cabin structure above the floor. This idea was to prevent an ongoing problem of leaves, dirt, and debris being sucked in the low slung radiator. Visual inspection at periodic intervals (most easily performed while checking the oil level) is always a good money saving idea. A great deal about the condition of the ENTIRE cooling system can be quickly learned by checking both the INSIDE and OUTSIDE of the radiator! Inspect the radiator for coolant seepage or stains around soldered seams of the sides, top and bottom of the radiator. A solenoid valve is an electrically-activated mechanical valve that opens and closes when power is applied to it. This kind of valve can be installed and wired into a Sterilight system which is monitored. If the UV intensity were to drop below the recommended level the solenoid would then be activated and automatically shut down the flow of water.
