For potable water an advanced oxidation unit of UV and ozone works well or for use on industry water recycling. The combination of hydrogen peroxide, UV and ozone works very well.

All Sterilight systems are rated for a 4-log inactivation of bacteria, viruses and protozoan cysts under specific conditions. This rating is at a specific flow rate, and water quality. It is a good idea to have your water microbiologically tested prior to installing a UV system.

With chemical disinfection, such as chlorination, the taste and odor of your water will change (depending on chlorine levels water can smell and taste of bleach) and disinfection by-products will be produced. A few examples of chemical disinfection by-products (DBP) are trihalomethanes and haloacetic acid. Both of these DBP's can be carcinogenic when ingested at high levels. The pH and conductivity of drinking water also changes when chlorine is added. UV is a physical type of disinfection.

Long-term trends in cloud type and amount are largely unknown due to the relatively short data record of comprehensive cloud observations, and the high variability of clouds on inter-annual and longer time scales. Many UV lamps intentionally produce ozone in large amounts (UV-V), which we do not recommend, nor does the EPA or American Lung Association. The UV lamps we use (UV-C) have special tubing that filters out the 185nm ozone wavelength, however all UV lamps that are considered 'ozone free' do produce some ozone, but the amount of ozone produced is so minute it is not considered an ozone producing lamp.

First, I have owned both and both are good products. Colgate originally owned the rights to the Via-jet (R). CD ozonators use an exposed electrical arc to generate ozone. A byproduct of Corona Discharge ozonation is nitric acid. When mixed with moisture from the humidity in the grow space this corrosive “syrup” contaminates the surfaces that produce the ozone. This requires frequent cleaning of the arcing surfaces or the contamination will reduce the ozone output of the generator. UV lamps use concentrated ultraviolet light waves to produce ozone.

The UV lamps used in AllerAir Air Purifiers are classified as non-ozone producing generator lamps. All electrical devices produce a quantity of ozone but the level produced by AllerAir's germicidal lamps is well below the allowable standards. The short wave UV-C band from the lamp provides a strong germicidal effect as water flows through the reactor chamber. Our systems do not form ozone. We have found that UV Clear® Systems works with ozone generators for noticeable clearer water.

Wide variations in pool water temperature will affect how well ozone works. An ozone generator should be designed and sized for maximum water temperatures and bather load.
