If your image is not the maximum size for the gallery page your thumbnail may be distorted. This exaggeration is most noticeable in vertical images. If you want to avoid the distortion please make a box in Photoshop that is 447 pixels wide and 350 pixels high that is white. Then save this newly generated file as the file for the registry. WinImages is an aspect-correct program. It reads the DPI (dots-per-inch) settings from an image file and uses them to set the ratio of width to height for display. Some programs do not set these values in the image file correctly, and as a result, the image will appear distorted. This problem is caused by advertisement blocking tools such as the Ad Blocking feature in Norton Firewall and Internet Security or ZoneAlarm Pro. For example, Norton Internet Security 2004 removes all images from the webpages you visit that are 120 by 90 pixels in size. Disabling Ad Blocking on the visitor's computer corrects the problem, but you can also adjust the size of your thumbnails and images to one that is not blocked (e.g. 121x90). Pincushion distortion is due to the construction of the image intensifier: the input phosphor is curved and the output phosphor is flat. The geometry (physical dimensions) of the tube and the design of the electron optics influence this parameter to a large extent. The s-shaped distortion is caused by the earth’s magnetic field. For some AOL users, a default setting of "Use Compressed Graphics" is turned on in their WWW preferences. Images on our site have been optimized to achieve the smallest possible file size without sacrificing quality. Further compression of these already optimized images in AOL causes these images to become distorted. You may have started PICTURE IT! Software as a stand- alone application and then selected 'Get Images' from the PhotoDoc scanner, choosing black-and-white scans. When the scan was transferred to the PICTURE IT! application, the image was garbled, although grayscale and color scans were fine. You should build up a .TEX file with the same structure that POVLAB.TEX, and in the "General|Enviroment" dialog put the full path to this file as the .TEX file that POVLAB must use. This .TEX file must contain the name of each texture with the full path to YOUR GIF files (if the directory-ies- is-are- directly below the POVLAB directory, it isn't necessary to put the full path, but just what is below the POVLAB directory, i.e: "MINES\STONES\STONE1.GIF"). If you don't have any thumbnails / resized images at all, it means that there's probably no image toolkit module active in your G2 installation. G2 needs either the imagemagick, netpbm or GD module to be active to generate thumbnails and resized images. After upgrading to a more recent version of PHP, it is possible a different MimeMagic.php function is being used to detect file MIME types, particularly the built-in PHP function mime_content_type, which fails to detect PNG files.
