Yes, it is possible to obtain a nonimmigrant visa (visitor's) visa to take the NCLEX-RN examination in the U.S. However, applicants for nonimmigrant visas must overcome the presumption of intending immigration. A U.S. Consular officer issues visas on a case-by-case basis after an interview.

According to the National Council of State Boards of Nursing, the NCLEX examination covers the following "categories of client needs":

In order to take the NCLEX examination, you must apply for nursing license from your state board of nursing. That board will determine whether or not you meet its criteria for NCLEX examination-eligibility. You must then register to take the exam.

The NCLEX examination is scored once by the computer on which you are taking it, and a second time by the National Council's testing service.

The NCLEX-RN is a multiple-choice examination taken on a computer focusing on your "critical thinking". All candidates are asked between 75 and 265 questions with the exact number of questions determined by the computer depending upon your previous answers. The maximum duration of the exam is five hours. The exam results are usually available within 72 hrs. in most states.

To retake the NCLEX-RN Examination, you must submit to the Board a completed Request for Reapply/Repeat Examination form along with the reapplication fee of $75. When the Board issues a notice of failing result, the Request for Reapply/Repeat Examination form is provided to the candidate.

The NCLEX Unofficial Quick Results is available to any candidate as long as their state board of nursing participates in the service.

The NCSBN re-take policy allows candidates to re-take their examination 45 days after administration of their examination. Candidates who have applied for licensure with a participating board of nursing will be permitted to take the NCLEX examination eight times a year, but no more than once in any 45-day period, unless limited to fewer re-takes by the desired jurisdiction of licensure. Note: The following boards of nursing do NOT participate in the 45 day re-take period.
