I have VERY good reputable trainers I can refer for advanced training and they like to get the puppy at about 7-8 months old - for obedience I also have some good folks and they can start with this a lot sooner at about 4-5 months old.

The obedience training is the best thing that you can do for your dog and puppy. It improve the bonding between the handler and the dog. While it does not solve all behaviour problem, it is the foundation for solving just any dog related problem. Most important of all, the obedience training open up a line of communications between you and your dog. Such effective communication is necessary for you to instruct your dog about what you want her to do.

The GSDCA Affiliate Clubs encourage new owners to socialise their puppy from a very young age, and therefore hold puppy classes for puppies from 8 weeks of age. Please ensure you bring your puppy's up-to-date vaccination certificate with you.

Obedience Training will assist in teaching you how to work with your dog, and teaching him good habits, and if necessary overcoming undesirable behaviour. Training is accomplished through repetition. Your dog will naturally learn to respect his trainer when rewarded with positive praise for a job well-done and a less pleasing, lower tone of voice when misbehaving. soon as your pup is old enough, a "Puppy Kindergarten" is highly recommended (contact a local obedience or breed club to find one), followed by a basic obedience class. Caucasians respond well to positive reinforcement training methods and will enjoy short, fun, creative training sessions. Off-Leash is when people come over and you put your dog on "Down-Stay" and do not need to get a leash. Off-Leash is when you go out to your car, or work in your yard and the dog will hang out with you, and not run down the street. Off-Leash is pulling over on the side of the freeway to let your dogs out to take a leak and opening the car door 5 minutes later and they jump back in.

Right away! Our methods are effective with all ages of dogs, even puppies as young as eight weeks of age. We raise our expectations as puppies get older, and exercises become more complex. It's the difference between kindergarten and college courses. Start by establishing the rules and teach your puppy or dog what to do. Management and training plus socialization help your puppy or dog become a well-mannered, confident companion.

We can start puppy training as soon as eight weeks, but you should not bring a puppy out to group classes until it has had all of its shots. In all honesty, you are training your puppy from the moment you bring it home, so you might as well do things right from the start. The beauty of my program is that as the dog matures you can keep coming back for more training.

The Heeling exercise will train your dog to heel along your side on loose leash. The dog is trained to move along your side as you go forward and sit down automatically as your stop. The dog will be trained not to pull as he walk. This exercise will train your dog to come to you happily and sit in front of you when the Come command is issued. Your dog is trained to be in stay command either in sit position or down position when the stay command is issued.

One of the greatest benefits to obedience school is socialization. Socializing your puppy early on will help him get along well with all kinds of people and pets. He can be enrolled in a socialization class as soon as he is twelve weeks old. These classes are designed purely as a socialization tool and do not focus on specific commands.

Teaching your dog to sit, down and stay does NOT resolve behavior problems such as separation anxiety, aggression, barking or housesoiling. If your dog can follow these commands, this may be one useful part of our behavior modification plan, but not enough by itself to resolve the problem. Your dog will not forget you while in obedience training. If you have a good relationship with your dog now, he will never forget you. Dogs recognize your voice more than the way you look, so as soon as you begin to talk to your dog when you get ready to take him home, your relationship will resume.

The sooner the better! Many responsible breeders start training their puppies as early as 5-6 weeks. Remember your puppy starts learning when you first bring her home and you may as well encourage good behaviors and social skills as early as possible.
