No, refilling your cartridge does not have to be a messy process. Latex-free gloves alongwith cleaning tissues are included in your ink refill kit and it is strongly suggested to refill your cartridge over newspaper or a sink. The main thing to remember in order to have a mess-free, successful refill is to inject the ink into the cartridge slowly since you are displacing air with ink.

If you are careful your mess will be very minimal. You may get some ink on your fingers and you can remove most of it by using either a 50% x 50% solution of bleach and water or Lava? soap. You might want to keep an aluminum turkey pan handy to work in or lay down a garbage bag with a couple of layers of newspapers over that. Ink that gets into your carpet will probably not come out, so with a little care the process should be fairly clean.

HP #40 and HP #45 cartridges use a green indicator on the side to indicate how much ink is left. This green indicator moves out of view when the cartridge is empty and may not reappear after refilling. This is due to the way that the indicator is made. However, you can tell that the cartridge is full by its weight. After refilling, the cartridge will be noticeably heavier than when it was empty.

Using the syringe supplied in your refill kit, inject air into the top air vent to clean the nozzles. A small amount of ink should be emitted from the nozzle upon injection. If this procedure is ineffective, fill a small dish with warm water and soak the nozzles for approximately 1 hour. After soaking dry the nozzle using a soft tissue or cotton swab and inject air into the top vent. Reinstall the cartridge and attempt to print again.

They do love to dig, and also shed, so if you want to judge them on those characteristics, yes, they can be messy. However, their double coat seems to repel dirt to a certain degree, and they have less "doggy odor" than most other breeds. Also, an Anatolian should have tight flews with a correspondingly "dry" mouth, so drooling is seldom a problem. If you want a really neat dog, though, the Anatolian is not for you.
