If a citation is not paid or appealed within 21 days from the date it was issued, a "Notice of Delinquent Parking Citation" to place a hold on the vehicle registration is mailed to the registered owner of the vehicle. Failure to respond to notice results in a hold being placed on the vehicle registration through the Department of Motor Vehicles, and a late fee will be applied.

Under this act, the state is empowered to collect up to $100,000 in suppression costs from a landowner if: the fire spreads within the protection zone around a structure and driveway that does not meet the standards and the Oregon Department of Forestry incurs extraordinary costs for suppression. The cost collection may be greater than $100,000 if a landowner is found to be willful, negligent or malicious in the origin of the fire.

If a citation is unpaid, a late fee is added after five business days, and a notice of unpaid citation is mailed to the registered owner of the vehicle. If it remains unpaid, approximately 28 days after the citation was issued an administrative fee is added and a second notice is mailed, again to the registered owner of the vehicle. By signing the traffic citation you have given your promise that you will appear. However, most tickets can be taken care of without appearing in court merely by paying the bail amount due on or before your court appearance date. By paying the bail amount without appearing in court, you will be convicted of the violation and the violation may appear on your record at the DMV.
