Check the cabinet temperature by using an accurate hand-held dial or digital thermometer placed next to the thermometer sensing bulb (located in the upper right hand corner of the cabinet). If the dial thermometer on the cabinet grill matches the test thermometer (+/-10F), do not adjust. If temperatures do not match (+/-10F), remove the dial thermometer lens with a small screwdriver. To adjust the temperature needle, insert a small screwdriver in the slotted screw on the needle.

You cannot calibrate a liquid in glass thermometer in the truest sense of the word; however, you can report the offset and allow the end user to apply the correction when making a temperature measurement. Thermocouple, RTD, thermistor, and SPRT probes can usually be annealed in order to relieve the mechanical strain.

Mechanical thermometers should be calibrated every day. Beyond that, you should calibrate them in the event that the thermometer has been exposed to extreme temperature changes or has fallen from a work surface (at which time sanitation is paramount as well).

Sure, every module that requires calibration comes with calibration instructions. Usually this takes a good frequency counter, volt meter (4+ digits), oscilloscope, and a precise voltage source (+/-1mv). All modules are calibrated before shipping with very accurate test equipment so you don't have to worry about this, but many people like to know what all of those trim-pots are for on the PCB. Many modules require no calibration at all.

Gas detection instruments are potential life-saving devices. Recognizing this fact, Industrial Scientific Corporation recommends that a functional ("bump") test be performed on every instrument prior to each day's use. A functional test is defined as a brief exposure of the monitor to a known concentration of gas(es) for the purpose of verifying sensor and alarm operation and is not intended to be a measure of the accuracy of the instrument.

Calibration is like buying a watch and setting the time for the first time. Glucose sensors are similar in nature. To initialize a glucose sensor, you need to enter a meter reading to give the system a starting point. And, just as a watch needs to be adjusted occasionally, so does a glucose sensor. You need to enter at least two meter readings a day – once every 12 hours.

The Omron Instant Ear Thermometer is hospital tested and meets the American Society for Testing and Materials accuracy requirement. For the measurement range of 98.0º to 102.0º F the accuracy is +/- 0.2ºF.

Wipe the casing with a soft dry cloth to clean the body of the thermometer. Never use any abrasive type cleaners or submerge the thermometer in water or any other liquids. Do not expose the thermometer to extreme temperatures, humidity, direct sunlight or shock. Always store your thermometer in a clean, dry place at room temperature. Fingerprints, ear wax or dirt will impede the accuracy of the thermometer.
