No shower for the first 48 hours. You may bathe as long as you don't get the lasered area wet. You will have a postoperative appointment about 24 hours after the surgery. At this first postoperative appointment we will teach you how to change the dressing. The day after your first postoperative appointment you can remove the dressing, shower, and reapply the dressing yourself.

None of our heaters are UL listed for use in a shower. We are unaware of any manufacturer who has a heater that can be safely installed in a shower or tub enclosure.

Dr. Woods uses a 'plastic surgery' closure of both the MIS total knee and MIS total hip replacement wounds. This is essentially a single running stitch of dissolvable suture material that is woven from side to side down the length of the 2 ? to 5 inch hip incision or the 4 to 6 inch knee incision. This is in turn covered with a plastic paint-on dressing called Dermabond. There are no sutures to take out or that would allow infection to get under the skin.

All the vessels carry a good supply of water but it is important to remember that a boat is totally self-contained and in wilderness areas not always near a water supply. We ask that people not shower every day to help conserve water.

In '94 you could get a shower at the Teller Hotel in Silverton for a couple bucks. I assume this is still the case. This is ordinarily an easy walk from the start/finish, but I wouldn't want to do it after the run! There are no showers at the South Mineral Creek campground. Normally you may shower after all the sutures are removed. You will receive instructions that you should shower from behind to protect the healing grafts from the direct stream of the shower water. Then you carefully pat the chest dry and reapply dressings (supplied) to the graft sites to protect them from the binder, and then your clothing for approximately two additional weeks.
