I can never finish a bottle of wine the same day it's opened. How long can a bottle sit corked and still be good to drink?  I'm afraid to try the wine that has been sitting there a couple weeks. Wine evolves once the bottle is opened and has a finite lifespan. It is the gradual exposure to oxygen that ages a wine. Once you open the wine, you are accelerating this procedure. The higher the alcohol, the more robust the wine. Most half-full bottles of wines and champagnes will oxidise overnight. Use a vacuvin to remove the air from the bottle. Fortified wines have been stabilised with the addition of spirit, so there is a little more leeway.

Oxidation—which begins as soon as the cork is pulled—is the enemy of wine. Refrigeration will slow oxidation, but it doesn't stop it altogether. In the rare instance that there is leftover wine at my house, I can drink an opened bottle for about three days before I start to notice it fading. My mother-in-law nurses hers for a week. Personal taste and frugality are big variables here.

The easiest thing to do is simply re-cork the bottle, put it in the fridge and drink it within a day or two. It takes a week or so for wine to really start going bad. Letting a bottle sit out for a few days will not ruin it. However, after a few days a wine will lose its flavor and begin to go flat. The best, and most difficult, way to maintain a bottle after it's been opened is to use an inert gas that puts a protective layer between the wine and oxygen.

Good question. If you can't manage it all in one sitting, the best bet is simply to pop the cork back in and put it in the fridge. It should still be OK the next day, and might even still be drinkable the day after that. But it will have changed a bit: as soon as a bottle is opened and the wine exposed to oxygen, the steady process of decline will have kicked in. Various preservation devices exist (e.g.

A few wines such as Tawny Ports, Sherry, and Madeira will keep almost indefinitely after the bottle is opened. This is because they become oxidized in casks (called oxidative aging) as part of the maturation process before they are bottled and sold. Because they're intentionally oxidized, exposure to a little more air won't damage them or cause any deterioration.

Once opened, Gatorade should be stored in the refrigerator and consumed within 3-5 days after opening.

You've asked a question that is deceptively simple. The basic answer is: "it depends." 95% of all wines are made to be drunk within a year or two of their release and do not require aging. The other 5%, of course, are the better wines. Most whites are ready to drink upon release, but some of them will improve with aging (especially good white Burgundies and a few California Chardonnays such as Chalone, Grgich, and Montelena as well as better German whites).

Unopened fuel which is stored out of direct sunlight is literally good for years. We have opened 10-year old containers and had the fuel be fully potent and usable. Once than can is opened, the special nitrogen atmosphere is gone and the food is exposed to humidity, the foods will last as long as similar grocery store products. This means pasta and grains will last months while dairy products should be consumer more quickly. The answer is a highly subjective, according to both the wine and the drinker. Generally, dry white wines have the shortest life once opened. I find they lose their character after even one or two days, especially cheaply-made, oaky New World whites. (Whites with good acidity and lots of character from Burgundy are an exception.) For reds, I think that most start to slip after two days, though again it depends on how well the wine was made. There are always exceptions.

Once opened it is recommended that a product should be used within six months. Remember always to store your products away from heat.

Be sure the groove (the "chime") into which the lip of the lid fits, is thoroughly cleaned of residual paint. Press the lid tightly; once secure invert the can for a few seconds to form an airtight seal. If it is not airtight there will be gaps, through which air will enter causing the paint to "skin over" in storage. Paints are affected by extremes in temperature.
