We recommend customers who drive in a city environment where there's lots of stop and go driving to change the oil and filter every 3,000 miles. The main reason we recommend 3,000 mile intervals is that driving in stop and go conditions causes excessive unburned fuel and carbon build up causing your engine oil to become contaminated. Oil is the life blood of your engine and changing it frequently will increase the longevity of your engine and reduce the potential for major mechanical failures.

The oil filter is located on the top of the engine near the driver side in the front. It is different than the disposable filter used in other autos. The outside plastic housing is reuseable and can be open with a special filter tool, M-B part #103 589 02 09 00 made by Matador, or #103 589 00 09 00 by Stahlwille. There is also CTA Ritefit 76-14 B A251. By the way, these tools are the same one used for oil filers in all gas engine by M-B since 1984.

Replacing the filter at each oil drain protects the engine by ensuring that the filter does not get full of debris and does filter the oil properly.

Engine oil is manufactured with friction modifiers and cleaning agents necessary for the modern engines of today. These additives are sacrificial and therefore after a period of time are no longer evident, leaving the oil contaminated with harmful acids and sludge which causes wear.

The best way to ensure proper oiling is to use our squeeze bottle recharger kit (Part No. 99-5050). With a squeeze bottle, you simply run a bead along the top of each pleat on both sides of the filter. If using an aerosol recharger kit (Part No. 99-5000), make one light pass over the entire filter area front and back. Some of the larger particles of the Microlon resin may not pass through the Frantz-type oil filter. This Frantz-type cartridge must be removed or by-passed during the treatment period to avoid a possible loss of some of the particulate. Nothing in the Microlon treatment is larger than 5 microns, however.

turbocharged car owners generally favor pure synthetic or synthetic blend oils over dino oils. synthetics' shear and anticoking properties at high temperatures are ideal for protecting turbocharged engines. any synthetic of the proper weight will do. don't get hung up on brand names. if your tt has a new engine or fresh short block, allow 5,000 miles for break-in with dinosaur (mineral) oil before changing over to synthetic oil. the "dino oil" helps seat rings, seals, etc.

This is because all modern engines are constructed so that Motor Oil is in the Oil Sump and is only pumped by the Oil Pump through the Oil Filter only when the engine is running. When the engine is switched off there is only small amount of oil left in the oil filter. In some designs even this small amount of oil will slowly drain back to the oil sump. However, if the oil filter is equipped with Anti-drain back Valve it will remain in the oil filter.

We recommend you change your oil and filter every 3,000 miles. However, many of our customers find that their oil is still clean at this point because of Tufoil's ability to cut friction and wear. They will then make the decision to extend oil changes accordingly.
